Appleton Farms is a beautiful spot with lots of walking trails. We went during the afternoon on a weekday in October, and there really wasn't much to do. We saw the cows, but everything else was closed down (Dairy Store and Visitors Center). I think there is more to do on the weekends when more visitors probably come by.

Worth the visit. 1,000 acres of varied fields and paths. A locavore farm stand (CS). A signature Trustees of Reservations site.

A gentle and soothing stop just outside charming Ipswich, MA, Appleton Farms offers fields, shady lanes, stands of forest and a glimpse of farm life before the time of agri-business. The terrain is varied and easy to walk, and I've never seen it crowded. Budget at least two hours to take it in at the ideal pace.

I grew up in Ipswich and Appleton Farms was across the road.If you drive to Waldingfield Road in ipswich which is off 1A, there is a place to park your car. There are great walking paths of various lengths. Bring your dog and bring your kids. Stay on the trails. You have to watch out for ticks and poison ivy. Very peaceful. Appelton Farms was one of the first land grants from the King and Queen of England in the 1600's. As a child I would go sleddingon the hills of the farm. I would ask permission from Colonel Appelton to ride horseback on his lands, This is a working farm.

We purchased the milk at the small store @ Appleton Farms. It was sooooo delicious we had consumed it in 2 days. It has the creamy consistency you remember only delivered by the milk man. Give yourself a special treat and purchase some. You do pay a deposit on the glass container but that gives you a reason to go backi.

Appleton Farms encompasses acres of farm land, meadows and woods with a variety of trails, some of which allow dogs off leash. At the end of all the trails is the farm stand and barns. They make their own cheeses and offer a wide selection of milk including un-homogenized milk which has the cream at the top of the bottle like we had as kids. They have a lot of gluten free pastry available as well. They cooking classes are great but fill up quickly so if you see one you like, make sure you register right away. There are tours of the farm for children and during the summer have Sundays where you can "meet the cows". There is always something interesting going on. Each season brings its own beauty to the trails.

Trails, vistas, cows and a great dairy store. The yogurt is the BEST! You might even see a fox or the Myopia Hunt coming through.

My wife and I drove an hour and a half to Appleton Farms to go hiking on their trails a couple of weeks ago and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Appleton Farms is a fully functioning farm that grows hay and raises cattle. The trails that we walked wound their way through the fields with grazing cattle as well through forested low hills. The contrast is delightful. The trails are well maintained and the free maps are very good. At the end of our hikes we stopped at the little store and bought some cheeses made from the milk produced at the farm. The cheeses were quite good. We are planning to go back in a couple of weeks again and hike to enjoy the local color.
