One of the lesser known facts about Pingyao- a small city in the province of Shanxi- is that it was a major innovator in the world of Asian banking. In the eighteenth century, the town had a number of financial houses, offering bank drafts, storage of silver coins and other early financial services. There were also a number of armed escort services for people wanting to transfer money to other services. While this is an interesting episode of history, you could not really rate these early banks as more than average sights, as the range of exhibits on display in this museum is fairly limited. Nonetheless, worth a quick look if you are in Pingyao.
