Crystal clear water, like paradise! there is no othere scenery like Kolona beach, unique geological phenomenon and very safe mooring place in Kythnos isl!
Unique double beach with gold sand and fantastic clear waters. Accessible both by car and vessel. One of Greece's best!
Positive: Amazing crystal blue waters, great view, close to the port (10 min. by sea taxi), 2 unique beaches on both sides of the sand.Negative: Can get a bit crowded, difficult to reach by car (bad dirt road)
The beach of Kolona is basically a narrow strip of land that connects Kythnos to the isle of St. Loukas.
this is a lovely place to spend a few hours. it really is unique. we arrived by taxi boat from Merichas and were able to find a nice spot easily. the few shade trees were already taken over by a couple of greek families. the water was perfect for swimming. after a couple of hours the whole area began to fill with yachts and boats mooring very close to the beach and the place began to become pretty crowded with the usual football and bat and ball in your face. we were there on a Sunday so that probably accounted for the busy beach activities. there is a taverna sitting above the beach in a lovely location. we went there for lunch and were surprised at the less than average food on offer. there were not many people eating there probably because it was a Sunday and all the Greek families had picnics.probably if we had visited the beach on a weekday we would have had a very different experience.
kolona is a sandy beach on kythnos, which seems to be the distinctive landmark of the island. Its peculiary is that it is a large strip of sand having the sea on both sides. One gets there from Merichas or from Hora but the last kilometre of "road" is really dangerous as it is extremely narrow and full of bents (pray not to run into a car coming from the opposite direction). Better stay at nice Apokrousi beach and have a look at it from there!
Difficult road by land but if you finally get there it will dedinatelly rewards with its crystal clear water both sides of a slim line of sand
