The Cathedral has recently gone through a 1.3 million Euro renovation and is fresher than ever!Don´t miss it!
They are trying to draw people away from the busy square where all the bars and restaurants are by decorating it with a few palm trees. It doesn't seem to be working. The church itself is rather plain inside.
Have been here a few time with customers and friends to see the Cathedral. The guide has always been so informative and helpful. If you ask, they will sometimes take you up into the tower through a back staircase for an interesting behind scenes look at the the construction and great photo opps out the " port hole" windows overlooking the harbor.
We enjoyed seeing the Cathedral, and we had a wonderful intern that talked at length with us. She even went into the closed gift shop and let us purchase an item we were interested in.
I was there one afternoon just to seek some peace of mind. It is in the centre of Kalmar, so approachable if you are coming from bus or train station (just a 5 min walk from the station). If you are expecting beautiful interior designs and all, then its not for you. But if you are looking for peace of mind, you will definitely like it.
Very nice and small Cathedral. Worth of small visit. There was even a little childrens playground (corner) inside the Cathedral. Should visit on afternoon time when there might be small choir perform or organ.
The cathedral is a unique example of baroque architecture in Northern Europe. Unique - as the baroque style was considered to be too 'papist'. The church is very 'light' and fits well the historical centre of the town.
I recommened this place if you can pay this a visit. A nice church, timeless in the middle of the centrum. Many wedding photos have been shot outside. Interesting location too.
My taxi driver took me here - otherwise I wouldn't have gone. I'm glad I did, anyway. The interior is exceptionally beautiful, with the rich gold and white of the walls and ceiling combining with the baroque statues to give a delicate, light feel. As we walked round, someone was playing the organ. I believe they sometimes have concerts there. Outside, in the square, there's a market stall (there was on that day, anyway), selling fruit, vegetables, flowers, honey and so on. There were also bottles with interesting-looking coloured liquids in them, which my taxi man said weren't alcoholic (yet).
Very Beautiful Kyrka. The guide was quite helpful and informative. Church is exceptionally clean and an amazing sight to see.
