I went to the groove bar attracted by the signs upfront the entrance ..very funny..."free beer, topless bartenders and false advertising"....indeed.... they advertise "cool inside"...it was very hot that day and their a/c was off..i asked the lady at the bar to open it if possible and she was a bit annoyed..she did it ,but the a/c must be broken because hot air was coming out off it....then i tried the local beer donkey on tap and tasted funny.i shared that with the lady behind the bar and she was very rude at me..well its not the first time i drink ale,i m not an expert but i know when a beer tastes funny..
British couple own the bar and went out of their way to accommodate our sports viewing needs :). Good cold beers with frosty mugs go perfect with the Santorini sun!
We have recently returned from an idyllic 2 week stay in Kamari, and are already planning our next visit. The Groove Bar was one of the bars we spent a lot of time in, and we are glad we came across this bar. There is a sign in the bar which says 'Enter as strangers and leave as friends', which is very true of this place. Andy and Liz are perfect hosts. Lots of laughs, music and sports on Sky sports, 4 TVs showing different games etc. The measures in the drinks are Liz's measures which mean you get well pi...d after a few of your chosen cocktail, spirits. Love the place, and love Max the ever so shy little dog of theirs. Try the Yellow Donkey, Red Donkey or Crazy Donkey beers, if you call in, and have a great time - just like we did. T & N
stopped in for a glass of wine and met the owner who was fom Liverpool origionally. Iwould have liked to have gone back at night, looks like an awesome place to have some fun! Prices were great and it's the only bar to get the Donkey beer.
Went to Kamari for my daughters wedding, there was a group of 20. We looked around for different bars that showed the football. We came across the Groove bar and were excited that they covered all sports not only the football. They have large TVs all round the bar and you could watch you want, you only had to ask. Andy and Liz were the upmost pleasure to now know as friends. As there moto says " Andy & Liz welcome you to Groove bar. Enter as strangers and leave as friends" what a very true statement. The donkey beer was great as was the ice cold Mythos. A great bar and fantastic couple. Will certainly visit the Groove bar again. All the best Andy & Liz... Pete and the rest of us. Oh hope next time I'm there you have some peanuts. Lol...
The day in question England where also playing Norway which was also on our tvs and being an English bar we where full with English people for the game. As we are a bar there are no reserved signs and normally if new customers (regardless of nationality) come into the bar and see an empty table they will sit there, i do find this perfectly normal. In relation to the empty glasses being taken from the table in the time you where 'gone' i had already served the other 10 customers. So i think that it is normal to assume that someone has left the bar after 10 mins, or did you expect on a busy night that you could leave the bar for half time and expect to sit back in the same places?I also wonder why you chose to write this review in English but all your other reviews are written in German.
We returned from Kamari last Tuesday following my brothers wedding. My lads discovered the Groove Bar and were made to feel very welcome and so were we. Lots of sport, pool table and good cocktails. My partners favorite has got to be the donkey beer. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and hopefully the Santorini Shuffle will live on LOL
If you like a bit of old school rock, then this is the place for you in Kamari. The owners are real ex-pat characters, a little grumpy, but totally lovely. The bar itself is full of quirky original touches; if you bring along a marker, your welcome to draw on the walls. On top of that, it's the only bar in the world that has Yellow Donkey on tap (apart from the brewery apparently).Only down side, the place felt a little lifeless, though this may have been down to the fact that we visited at the end of the season.
Just returned from our second time in Kamari. Visited Andy and Liz at the Groove most days - always had a warm welcome, and listened to the best music to be played in any bar on the island! Service always great, and you can see what goes in to the cocktails - no half measures in the Groove!! Nearly forgot - you can watch all the football, rugby, motor racing you want while downing a few pints of draft Yellow Donkey :-) Already counting down the days to our next visit.
a must to check out when in kamari, good music(ska, northern soul etc),and every sports game on much to my delight not so plenty of conversation with liz but kept my hubby happy they even put the cas rugby on for us,with a very warm welcome from liz and andy with plenty of scouse humour thrown into every conversation and just like arnie we will be back
