I was there at end of avgust 2013 and it was pretty much windy so there where huge waves. Me and my boyfriend kinda liked it, but my mother (who is 55 years old) couldnt go into the water-the waves were to big and she could fall.Although, beaches are sandy and the water in verry clean.
Close to town, but there are much nicer places arround the island, take a look in trip advisor :), Finiki is just one of them...
First of all: The water is clean and very clear! The beach in front of the hotels next to town actually is narrow and ugly. In addition this is an area which usually is crowded. The greater the distance to town the better the beach. On the other hand: Far out there are no facilities and there is no shade unless you bring it. Partially the beach is very rocky and it is difficult to walk even with shoes. There are some places with a few meters of sand into the water which makes swimming a real pleasure.
Pigadia is a beautiful sandy beach located in Pigadia. With relatively shallow waters and soft sand, the beach is an ideal place for families.
It is the major place in Karphatos, full of all the usual attractions but not very crouded and very pleasent.
Had to buy swimming shoes, disappointed about the beach. The water was nice. It was hot in the sun, so we had to take a bath several times while we were at the beach
Pigadia beach is ok.. but thats it :) On Karpathos you can easily find more beautiful beaches. I suggest you rent a scooter or a car and you will easily find amazing beaches.. on some of them, you might even be alone :)
Liked everything. The people and Greek lifestyle was wonderful. Will go back next year but for a longer stay :)
It is in close proximity to the hotels - there are many sun beds/umbrealls to choose from. There are also a number of snack bars/restaurants overlooking the beach.
Mostly fine water because of rock bottom that was very good when you learned to how to go in the water, really liked it.
