This is definitely worth doing if you have time whilst visiting the lovely city of Cochem. The cable car takes you to a cafe at the top which offers good views of Cochem, the river and the valley. From there you can walk to the cross for stunning views or walk to the Klotten Wildlife Park. The walk is on forest paths and can be steep in places.
We rode on the chair-lift one-way to the top, enjoyed the views from the 'cross' and walked the way down. Achtung! Attention! Just before the chair-lift reaches the top, a photographer is stationed who will ask if you want a photo clicked. We got ourselves clicked, she posted us the photos and they turned out really nice! She charged us 7 euros for 2 prints of size 6" x 4" (including postage within Germany). She had some other options also available.
This is a must do in Cochem, specially if the weather is warm and sunny. The trip up the mountain doesn't take long and the views are breathtaking. At the top there is a restaurant were you can enjoy a little meal or a refreshing beverages.
Very nice to walk little bit around to admire the view. And before you go down enjoy something from the restaurant at the top. My opinion a must do if you visit Cochem.
If you are looking for something to do after touring the old town - take a ride on the chairlift to see some amazing views of the city below.
Cochem, is probably the most visited village along the Moselle River. The Reischsburg Castle dominates the town. The village is quite small and it's easy to find your way around. There are charming lanes and medieval houses, lots of little shops. The streets are cobblestone. There are many restaurants along the river near the town. The are stairs to the castle. We found the tour of the castle very informative. You can walk down to the town.
Nice is not a fantastic attraction but it is fairly fun, relaxing and nice and you get to enjoy a view of of cochem city surroundings. The ride takes around 8 minutes and from the top there is a cafe, you can trek 5 minutes to a viewpoint called Pinnerkreutz over looking the Mosel river and valley and if you walk 20 minutes you can go to a mini zoo/amusement park entrance is €16 per person. Be careful to go back with the lift before closing time or you will have an exhausting walk down the hill by a small path. Good if you need some exercise though :-)
We took the lift up the hill to see the views of Cochem and were glad we did. You can hike over to the cross, which is illuminated at night, and see the river and town below. The weather was a bit iffy, but by the time we actually went up on the lift, the weather had cleared and was sunny. We hiked around for a good amount of time. There is a snack bar up there too, which we did not go to. We hiked around the area and saw a roller coaster up there. Getting on and off the cars is easy and they will stop the lift if you need more time to get on and off.
From Cochem, a cross can be seen on the top of a hill. So, we took the Cochemer Sesselbahn up which is great to see the town and surrounding countryside including the Mosel River. So, we get off the chair lift and promptly go the wrong way to walk to the cross. We are walking & walking & walking and thinking this can't possibly be right. A few other people were behind us and when we turned around, they kept going so hard to say where they ended up. Anyways, after getting in the right direction, the cross is a very short walk from the chairlift. There are great views of the town from here. If it's a clear day, this is worth doing. There is a restaurant up there also but we didn't go to it.
