No trip to Como should be without a visit to this great cathedral. Stunningly impressive, it is refreshingly down to earth a reflective of a house of God rather than a tourist attraction. The stained glass windows are amazing as are the ornate ceilings. Be advised, Sunday's are reserved for worship and tourists are requested to defer there visit to another day.
Unlike the Duomo in Milan, this. Is smaller and less grand but still beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. There are no crowds to wrestle to get in or when exploring the inside of the cathedral. The courtyards are pretty too, not littered by markets and stores. Plus Como is a nice place to visit away from the traffic, noise and graffiti laden Milan.
We walked past this impressive building many times during our stay on lake Como so just had to visit Not sure of times when it is open as the doors were locked at times but obviously open at other timesNot a massive building but extremely dominating. We entered from the main road and passed the fountain flanked by old cannons before climbing the steps into the cathedral. I wasn't happy with the interior glass doors as I have a bit of a phobia with glass - but soon through and into the buildingFor a non religious person such as myself, you forget religion immediately and marvel at the buildingAs all the plaques etc are in Italian you have to guess at the inscriptions but we still got the gist, lovely depiction of the last supper is a must to seeWe were very lucky to leave on the hour and spent lovely 10 mins watching the large bell in the tower clang awayPs look for the Terrapins in the fountain
An interesting Cathedral with wonderful interiors. Had to ask in the end a curator where the behead frogs could be found. (outside the NE door) Also an interesting human statute sitting on air outside. (Look closely to see the poles hidden under the gowns)
Came here just before Christmas the lighting and decoration was amazing!!! Next to the Duomo there is an amazing market and it is very near the lake.
It's not like Milan Duomo but it's also a nice church to see. Along the narrow streets of Como you reach her. It has some nice coffes in the square outsider so you can have your espresso and enjoy the view.
Como is a beautiful place though in mid-July it's hot and filled with tourists! The Cathedral was welcome respite from both crowds and sun, and is magnificent. Not to be missed.
Enjoyed visiting the Como Cathedral .although being a Sunday was quite crowded and that made the visit short.
