The story of the Wedding Cake House and the unique structure make this a worth while stop if you are in the Kennebunk area.
I drive by this place regularly. The owners are neglecting the up keep. It was more attractive years back. In the summer there are busses that stop for pictures and that's fine but I wouldn't pay to go inside.
The house is beautiful, but sad to say that it doesn't appear to have been kept up over the years. It is absolutely darling! A great stop!
Run down and not worth the drive to find it. Actually looked kind of spooky. Expected more. Not recommended.
Just such a quirky and one-off building. A real showstopper - which is a lot to stay in an area filled with lovely old buildings.
You must see this large cake looking house that is most unusual. It will be unlike anything you have every seen or witnessed.
There really isn't much to do here except stop, look, and take a picture. You can't go inside, but you can read the history in many of the local tourist publications. It's an interesting-looking house that, sadly, does need some sprucing up.
We did not search for it, but past in front of this house by chance. It is cute, but it seriously needs some renovation.
We found the home to be in some need of repair and a coat of paint on the outside. While we went there to take a picture of the home because we were in the area, we were promptly met at the gate by the owner, Jimmy Barker. He was very kind and offered to take us on a tour of the home inside. There were many antique pieces of furniture, as well as items that he had just picked up at a garage sale or received from a friend. He offered for one of us ladies to play the piano, but unfortunately, neither of us had that skill. The inside of the house boasts a spiral staircase, that is the focal point when you enter the front door. There is a beautiful mural painted all along the wall. The home also boasts some beautiful chandeliers and many other unique paintings and sketches of the owner. Mr. Barker also offered to show us the upstairs, but we declined. At the time, we didn't realize what a unique opportunity we were given to see the inside of his home, but we appreciated him sharing his Faith, stories and home with us.
The homes on Summer Street were beautifully decorated for Halloween. The Wedding Cake House was unique and we took several photos.
