I cannot say enough amazing things about Hennings Cheese. Visit, tour, taste or simply order online. The Blueberry Cobbler heritage cheddar is my favorite!
We still laugh that we planned to stay an extra day to see this place. The rave reviews sound like they have been written by neighbors, friends, and family of the Hennings. I was hell-bent that we see a Wisconsin cheese factory while in "America's Dairyland," hence we drove over hill and dale to get to this small store and "museum." The cheese production factory was not in operation. "It stops at noon," we were told without apology, and as if we should have known. So basically the viewing windows looked into a darkened but spanking clean work area. The collection of artifacts on display in the back of the store were interesting, labeled with their circa and use, but it fell way short of what I would call a museum. Some different cheeses to sample... but the store seemed more like a place where locals go to buy their cheese. A few t-shirts, refrigerator magnets and cheese hats were thrown into the store for tourists like us, I guess so we wouldn't feel totally cheated. If there was a "mammoth" 2,000 lb. cheese wheel on display in the store, somehow we managed to miss it. Check their website for a picture and save yourself the trip.
We had read about Henning's Cheese in "Every Day with Rachel Ray" magazine, and it is mentioned in the Moon Travel Guide for Wisconsin. We were really wanting some authentic Wisconsin cheese on our vacation, and decided to seek out Henning's. Make sure you have a good GPS or you will not find this place! Once you find Henning's, any cheese lover will find it difficult to make choices on what to buy. They have many different styles, flavors and quantities of cheese, and they provide free samples of several varieties. The blueberry cobbler cheese was delicious. Our biggest problem was limiting our choices due to the available space in our small travel cooler. I strongly recommend the mozzarella whips, the colby jack, and the fresh cheddar cheese curds (they really do squeak when you bite into them).Henning's also has a small museum with many photos of Henning's history and family, and several old cheese-making tools and machines. There are large windows in the museum that allows you to view the cheese-making process when they the manufacturing process is running.Hennings also sells ice cream (although it is made at another company in the area) and they have a wine selection. The staff at Henning's is very friendly. They were eager to answer all of our questions, and we were able to see some of their 60 lb. cheese rounds, and a 4,000 lb. cheese round destined for a customer while we were there (see the photos I attached to this review). We are still eating the cheese we bought a week ago, and we plan to order more from Henning's. This really is off the beaten path, but if you want to experience real Wisconsin cheese, Henning's is a great place.
The Henning family has been making cheese for 3 generations. Hennings has a wide selection of cheese and a small museum. If you love cheese you should visit this place. The 6 year old extra sharp cheddar is outstanding
I love this place it is a nice little drive in the country. The cheese is the best, try the blueberry cobbler heritage chedder. When I bring this stuff back home to my friends they all ask for it when I go back to get more. Hands down some of the best and most reasonably priced cheese around. Make the effort to go to this place. Then treat yourself to a trip to Schwarts supper club in St. Anna for the best prime rib in Wisconsin.
HENNINGS is the place to get cheese!!We go here every year to stock up on our cheese supply. Hennings continues to grow and change., The new flavors such as Dill and Cajun Curds are very tasty. The store has expanded with the museum, cheese making observatory, and store packed with many cheese options. Stop by and eat some cheese!
Great place to visit. This place has the best cheese ever. Lovely fruit flavors including Cherry, Cranberry and Apple Cinnamon. I never thought this could be so good!
We took a lovely country drive to find this place & are so glad we did! It was great to see into the production area, also great to check out the museum. We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Henning, a very friendly man who stopped to chat with us for at least 10 mins. We purchased several varieties of their excellent cheese as well as ice cream cones for the road trip ahead. (If you like mint chocolate chip, you'll love their after-dinner mint flavor!) We would definitely return to this place!
We wanted to go to a cheese factory during our visit to Wisconsin. We wanted to find a family owned business that had cheese and ice cream. We found Henning's by looking online and were not disappointed. The employees were friendly and helpful (even regular customers were happy to answer questions and give information). It is out in the middle of nowhere but our GPS took us right to it. You can sample curds and many varieties of cheese. I tried almost all the cheese. I bought some of our favorites to bring home and they packed it for our flight. They have windows into the factory so you can watch the cheese being made. Overall I thought this was a great stop on our trip and would go back if we are ever in Wisconsin again!
