It wouldn't say you need more than an hour or two, at most, here, but it is cheap to get in, and a great place to entertain a toddler or small child for a while. For what it is (I.e. Not a zoo), it's go a pretty good selection of animals. A
Don't expect a "real" zoo, this is a cross between a farm, an animal park and a playground. There are some animals that one can see in another zoo, like for instance camels, seals and eagles. And there are lots of animals one can see on a farm. But there are also animals like for instance foxes, red pandas, kangaroos and meerkats. The nice thing of this Tiergarten is that it's easy for children to see the animals from a close (but safe) distance, with the possibility to feed them as well. One can buy a small box of "tierfutter" (animal food) at the entrance very cheap. It's relaxed, so you can take your time, especially the children. That way it's also easier to get to know the animals' behaviour. There's a small playground, a simple take away and some outdoor seating. Staff is friendly, and although they are busy with feeding the animals, cleaning and maintaining the place, they still find time to answer any questions.
Leuke kinderboerderij aanwezig.
The current animal park has wide range of about 300 animals, mainly old pet breeds and a number of European predators such as owls and Eurasian lynx. Furthermore: a rare albino donkey, boar, Przewalski's horses, a basin with seals, sheep and cattle, Bulgarian long-haired goats, fallow deer, screw-horned goats, pets from the Asian and African and South American and Australian continent: camel, lama, kangaroes, pigmeegoats, corsac fox, raccoons, mink, ferrets, etc.
We took our children here and they really enjoyed feeding the animals. There were all sorts of more unusual animals and lovely sea lions too. The entry price was relatively cheap and the food for the animals was about 1Euro for a box. Kids could go into the goat pen and feed the goats which they found very entertaining. We didn't buy any drinks or snacks so can't comment. To go to the loo you have to go through the turnstile and back round into the zoo entrance using your ticket again. I have to say that the toilets were clean but horrible. Like a stainless steel funnel that you really do not want to sit on. Also the hand washing is all automated so not ideal if you 'miss' the soap especially when you have been stroking animals. All together a very pleasant wee park and if you are in Kleve it is worth a visit with children.
