Wonderful to wander around the grounds of the castle, which also contains villagers houses & a convent. Fantastic views of Zaga beach
Castle town a little disappointing, but we entered the Convent and were made very welcome. Stunning views from the tower, and lovely gardens and architecture.
The site of Koroni is definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere near the region. You can easily spend a few hours here exploring the different castles and features. Bring a picnic and you can have a picnic in the wild onion fields or near a castle site (but please clean up). One of the most stunning castles I have ever seen.
Take your camera, great views and you will meet the nuns chatting by their gift shop: they are very friendly. There were quite a few bare shouldered women visiting even though they do ask you to cover yourself up out of respect. Pretty gardens.
It is quite rugged and the walk up to the castle is most interesting. It could do with some real TLC and restoration though. It also has a lot of litter around the place. The locals don't seem to have any civic pride about protecting the area and keeping it clean to attract tourism.
The castle is wonderfully situated above the delightful town of Koroni. Inside the walls is a monastery with a beautiful church and charming nuns who allow you through their grounds to climb up on the battlements upon which is erected a large cross. The wild flowers outside the monastery were a wonderful contrast to the tended gardens inside.
Well worth the walk to the castle and nunnery. A great deal of history is attached to the site. You can walk around the perimeter and get fabulous views of Zaga beach. Visit the nunnery and their beautiful chapel.
Really interesting to wander round the ruins of this Venetian castle and marvel at what it would have been like in its heyday. Give yourself a couple of hours at least - the church and the nuns running the shop are delightful, but make sure you leave time to do the full circuit, great views and interesting tunnels to explore.
You can drive right in Walk past the cemetery , turn left at the wall looking over the beachJust keep walking ( few minutes only)From there you will see Mediterranean flowers at spring timeArcheological remains and the splendid view Seawater .Be a ware of the holes in the ground around.
Nice walk for approx 1-2 hours, especially in the late afternoon with the sun starting to set.Do not miss the monastery with the look over Zaga beach (remember to take your camera) and visit the chapel below. Also the cemetery has a nice location. If you are on time, you can buy something from the nun's shop.To visit the monastery you need to wear long
