Vermont has always been one of my favorite get aways. This is one of those places that has to be experienced. Especially if you love nature.
Actually, this is just a pleasant scramble down a well-worn trail with some interesting geology and plant life. Can be done within an hour and a nice break from driving. I suspect that it could get very crowded if you are there at the wrong time but we picked a very grey day close to sunset and it was a reasonable stroll.
We hiked to the bottom of the gorge and were impressed with the beautiful views. Also walked across the bridge to see it from above.
Stunning gorge! :) There is plenty of parking and good sidewalks around the bridge. There aren't good sidewalks from the parking to the bridge, strangely. There are also some nice, easy paths along the river.
A must scenic see in the area but the view is literally off a fairly busy road with traffic. with snow/ice piled up on the sides there was little to no room to stand on the shoulders and nothing to hold on to. be careful, watch for cars and good luck keeping your balance trying to take pictures!!
Even though the trail is somewhat slick and slippery in the winter, this is a beautiful gorge! With the snow-covered trees, ice-sculpted river below and fresh air, what a beautiful stop along the way.Take some good hiking boots. If you have snowshoes, all the better! Best view is from the bridge that can be accessed from the road. (Don't even need to walk the trail if you don't want to or have the time.)
Beautiful walk across the snow covered field. Good winter walking gear a must. Bring your camera, you never know what nature has in store
This stunning place with its gorgeous views and wonderful photo ops, is worth every minute you spend to drive here. I only wish I were close enough to visit each season! I was there early summer and it was fabulous! Take your camera and allow time.
It is beautiful in every season. Great place for hiking, snowshoeing and swimming. Really nice campground too.
This is known as the Grand Canyon of Vermont. However, if you have seen the real thing, there is no comparison. Worth a visit, if you are in the area, especially if you take the time to hike down to the bottom. But watch the markers on the trees carefully, as it is easy to miss a turn-off.I often come here for short walks with my dog, but I usually approach the gorge from the trail opposite the Inn at Marshland Farm. There are some great views of the waterfall over the dam from here. And in the summer months, wild flowers on both sides of the pathway. Just a little bit of heaven on a warm sunny day, during the summer, but it is also worthwhile at other times of the year, except for mud reason!Great for bird-watching too! I have seen heron and red-winged blackbirds here
