Definitely a spot to stop for the kids. My girls (age 2) couldn't get enough of playing with the animals. The price was reasonable since the kids were free (under age 2) and they went crazy over being allowed to pet the goats and sheep. They wanted to pet everything after that. The staff there is young but really nice and great with the kids. Definitely recommend. A tip though-wear sunscreen and bring a hat. There are not very many trees and even less shade. On a hot day, it's toasty.
Family and I have been coming here for a few years. It's outstanding! It's a great place for "city" people to come and see farm animals and interact with them. Our kids love that they can feed the animals, bottle & hand fed. For the most you can go into the animal pens and pet them and feed them. Prices are within range of every place in the area but it's also worth it for the redneck to the white collar family.
This place seemed kind of sad to me. The animals didn't seem to be happy or properly fed. I'm sure this is more of a place for kids then anything else. All of the animals are just ordinary farm animals, nothing out of the ordinary. I'm sure someone that owns a farm could display this much better.
We have been here before when our kids were younger. Nice short walk through but kids were bored fast. Not worth the $48 to get in for us.
My almost 3 year old loved all the animals that he got to touch and my 5 year old thought it was awesome too. My 7 year old was just OK with it. They did enjoy the pig race and feeding the animals. Liked that you get 3 days for 1 price. Nice picnic area. Only bad thing was the chicken that hung around for lunch and would eat anything that came close to the ground.
Pay once and you get in for 3 days which is a good deal. Our daughter loved this place at age 2 and age 7. You can feed the goats and sheep. See pig races, hold chicks and chase chickens! They have pony rides and a tractor ride. People are really nice. The price like everything isn't super cheap but you get 3 days. $11 for adults, $8 for kids. Fun for all.
I came from NYC to the Rapid City area to visit Mount Rushmore... who knew that visiting Old McDonald's Farm would become the highlight of my trip!?!? This farm is relatively small, but fantastic. Animals include pigs, goats, cows, horses, etc. There is also a small play area for children, and a schedule of animal feedings and pig races. All the employees were really helpful and informative. A great way to experience South Dakota's culture and play with animals. You can go into the animals' pens and play with all the animals. When I visited there were two 5 week old baby goats.. adorable! THE BEST PETTING ZOO!!!
It didn't disappoint = second time around. The staff are wonderful, the animals are great. The girls loved the chicks and the fact they can hold them was the reason for coming back. The baby goats are my favorite! they were fighting and playing and just wonderful!
My family of 6, all kids under 10, visited. We really had NO plans to ever go there. However, my 5 year old daughter wanted a pony ride, her only request during our vacation. So we looked at every ranch that does horse rides, but only a couple offer pony rides (High Country Ranch--only 1 pony and only at 4:00pm) but they were far away from where we were based in Keystone. The tourism rep in Keystone said she only knew of MacDonald's Farm doing pony rides. Being right on Hwy 16, it's easy to find and find parking. The cost was about $70 to all of us to get in, but they do offer a 3 day free pass so you could come back too. Bring quarters/cash so you can buy some seed/food out of the machines and feed some chickens and wild turkeys that roam around. There are quite a few exhibits to see, we spent 2.5 hours here riding ponies, playing on the playground, watching a pig race and just having fun petting and spending time with all the animals. This was my first time at this attraction and I would fully recommend it for anyone who loves animals. I don't believe they have much for food here so eat beforehand or pack a lunch.
Kids could have stayed there all day and played with the goats. Adults probably not going to be into it too much. Once admission is paid, you can come back for the following 2 days afterward. We ended up stopping in a couple of times since it was close to all our planned stops anyway.
