We love the NSTC at the Black Box Theater! There are a lot of places in Las Cruces to see theater but NSTC is by far and away the best. Each season offers something for everyone. We finally purchased season tickets for the whole family. The theater is very cozy. The audience can see from every seat in the house and there is never any difficulty hearing the actors. The shows are well directed by local directors and the actors come from all around the Las Cruces and El Paso areas. The theater is very good about welcoming newcomers to the stage and a lot of good talent has been "discovered" there. Every show is unique and you just can't go wrong by spending your entertainment dollars there.
"Nora" -- an Ingmar Bergman adaptation of Ibsen's "Doll house" (currently running) is well acted and well directed. You can see the emotion in the actors' faces. This is a serious play, not light fare. The space is intimate. There is seating on three sides, but I would recommend trying to get on the side facing the front of the stage for the best view. Marissa Bond is excellent as Nora.
This little theatre right in the heart of downtown Las Cruces is so intimatethat you can reach out and touch the performers...that's how close the audience is to them. It is quaint, intimate, and totally fun...for a nice evening out that won't break the bank, and for excellent local entertainment...not miss the Black Box Theatre.
Intimate theater setting and plays which variously make you laugh or cry or just challenge your thinking. Peter and Ceil are wonderful supporters of the arts in the city.
Not your usual community theater. The owners go to London and New York to see plays and then produce those they like here. The tickets are inexpensive, $10 for adults, $9 for seniors. They have refreshments when there is an intermission and also before the play starts. They often have local artists' work for sale, or you can just look at it in the lobby. You enter, not from Main Street, as you might expect, but from the parking lot on the other side. It is a small intimate theater. One can usually get tickets without difficulty, even at the last minute. If you are a regular, they will see that you always get your favorite seats.
This one-woman play, starring Janet Mazdra, is well worth seeing. Janet does an excellent job, portraying the various ups and downs of this middle-aged woman, Shirley Valentine. The play is funny and moving at the same time.
We've enjoyed prior showings at NSTC, but Tick Tick Boom did not meet our expectations. Actually the vocal performances were quite poor and embarrasing for the cast. The production should be cancelled, or hire a vocal coach quick!. We'll support NSTC for future productions, just not another musical with any of the actors in TIck Tick Boom!
I have season tickets and have enjoyed every play I've seen there. It's a small theatre so every seat is good. The current play is hilarious - Greater Tuna.
The theater may be old and small but we have never been disappointed in the show.. The actors have such talent. Great value too!
We have watched many plays at "The Black Box" Theatre over the last 20+ years. The people are nice and the atmosphere is simple, yet accommodating. Some plays are excellent, others ok but we always enjoy it!
