We visited in the morning when they were busy making cheese which they do six days a week. One of the counter persons took the time to explain the operation and answer our questions. This was definitely a great learning experience. Took some freshly made squeaky cheese (cheese curds) with us for the road and boy were they good, They have a superb variety of their cheeses for sale. It is a very small place, but a very large experience. Highly recommended if you are anywhere near here.
We were recently crossing Wisconsin on a Cross-Country RV trip and made a quick stop at this little shop. They were not making cheese at the time of our visit but we were able to view the large vats and watch a short video. There were numerous samples to try and souvenirs to browse. We ended up making a few purchases and we are certainly glad we stopped.
We often buy Wisconsin cheese but never had a chance to see it being made until we visited this attraction. It's a little off the beaten path. Do not depend on GPS. Follow driving instructions in the ads. It's a small but very busy production facility. We arrived at 9:30am and fortunately they were still making cheese. You have to watch the operation from behind a window to maintain sanitary conditions. One of the employees described how they made cheese curds and pressed them into rounds before they were shipped out. They sell a variety of cheeses on the premises. Parking is limited to a few cars, but visitors came and went after a short visit. No admission charged!
Love the cheese curds - $5.75lb - I thought tasted a better than the Market Square Cheese - However I prefer the Market Square store for selection of various items-they sell their curds for $4.99 for 12oz. We like to warm up the curds in the microwave - still has the fresh squeaks but brings out the flavor more.
We really enjoyed seeing how the cheese was made! We had a personal guide named Ellie who answered all of our questions, we watched a brief, but informative video and got to watch the process "live"! Tasty samples and plenty of cheese to purchase were available!
This was well worth driving an extra dozen miles. We learned an awful lot about cheese production while watching the process. Staff members are friendly and knowledgeable. We started sampling and couldn't resist buying. I thought we'd purchased too much to carry, but today we have nothing left in the fridge but memories of great products.
This place has always been good, but the added number of cheeses over the last few years has been wonderful. My favorite is the 8 yr old cheddar.
30 minutes west of Wisconsin Dells (I-90/94) and about 2 miles south of La Valle. Go before 11am, Monday to Saturday to see World Champion cheese makers practicing their routine. The staff is friendly, the samples are plentiful, and the SW Wisconsin countryside makes getting there a pleasure. My 20 year old daughter thought it was great as well. And, oh yes, the cheese is spectacular.
Loved the welcome we got walking into the cheese factory. We were shown how the cheese was made on a video, which was very interesting to get an up close look! It made me want to work in a cheese factory! The gals at the counter were more than friendly and helped us with our questions. Been here twice and would go back every time we are in Wisconsin! If you love cheese, this is the place you want to be!
This is a small place that was fun for a short visit. We were able to watch some of the cheese production even though we didn't come until about 11am. The woman at the counter was very informative and friendly as well as helpful in our selection of cheese. The drive to the factory was fun as well through the beautiful rural countryside. Definitely worth the time to come.
