There is not much more to say here, the Riace bronzes are two full-size Greek bronzes cast in around 450 BC and they are absolutely breathtaking. A must-see.
I bronzi are beautiful. Pity that this new museum is unorganized. Staff unfriendly. No signs. smallest tv screens ever seen in a museum to show the video anout the findings. I Bronzi is the only exhibition in the museum! People are disrespectful about not touching the statues or jumping on the base as well as using cellphones (projibited) tje guard in the exhibition room couldnt care less since she is busy on her computer. Overall not worth going there!
We were here in October 2014. There were very little people around which allowed us to linger for a while. The statues are incredible. Absolutely worth the trip.
There was very little people, pity there was not much to see at the moment at the museum beside the bronzi, but they are worth the visit by themselves
Even if you have only an hour to spare in Reggio, I would recommend paying a visit to see the Bronzi di Riace! The 2 bronze statues are absolutely breathtaking and the video show accompanying it is very informative (detailing how it was found, the theories on its origins, how it is being preserved, etc). Even though there are not many other exhibits at the museum, I would still recommend a visit to this museum as whatever was on display definitely caught my attention and made me want to linger longer there. I had planned for a short half hour visit (max) but ended up staying close to an hour. To note that flash photography is not allowed for the bronze statues section of the museum.
I did not know anything about these bronzes, until I read about them in Michelin. We saw them on a Sunday morning and they were awesome to think that they were crafted 2000+ years ago. The documentary on how they were found and restored is a much before seeing them.
Seeing the Bronzi di Riace alone is worth the trip to Reggio Calabria. They are simply fantastic!!!!
The warriors of Riace, found in 1972 at 8 meters under the sea are simply awesome, the details, the perfection. Also the museum of MagnaGreciamade a great effort to preserve them. Definitely Worth a visit
We visited the museum to see the bronze statues. We browsed other areas, but mostly appreciated the 2 bronze statues. You start with a short documentary that explains how the bronze statues were found, restored and presented in Italy. It was worth the visit and we paid just 5 eur each to enter.
When I so them last year, they were undergoing restorations but they were amazing. These two statues are based in an area on their own and it is a must see at all times!!
