I really enjoyed spending a couple of night at The Red Mile in August and September. While I lost a considerable amount of money betting the horses, the tellers and the food servers were really friendly. They also have a great announcer at The Red Mile, Gabe Prewitt. He makes every race interesting.
This is a very nice race track in Lexington! The area around it is very pretty and it is a typical track you see in North Carolina. I would love to go back to see a race here again. I believe the races fall on Thursday and Sunday evenings in August.
Make The Red Mile a stop during the Grand Circuit meet this fall racing Thursday - Sunday from September 25 - October 5. It's a beautiful, fun place to spend a fall afternoon watching the horses race.
I had been looking forward to visiting this historic track for some time. And I admit that it is charming. The track itself is well-maintained and you get closer to the action than at any track I'd ever been to. And instead of a wire fence neck-high, there is a brick 2 foot high fence separating the crowd from the track in some areas. It's difficult not to love. In addition, there is a guy that runs the gift shop out of the clubhouse entry that is the best I've ever seen at a harness track. All kinds of shirts in sizes from infant to 6X. Mugs, hats, etc. A great place to shop for a harness racing fan. That said, there were issues. The clubhouse wasn't open for live racing, which is sad. And while there is an area to order food and sit down while watching simulcasting, it's poorly maintained, with TV's not working at some tables. My wife called several times in advance trying to coordinate a winner's circle photo for our one-time visiting the track, and never got a call back. There are definitely facility management issues keeping this from being a top-notch racetrack.
Harness racing is an All-American icon and the Red Mile is awesome. Go during the racing meet and see how great this type of racing is. The grounds are old school at its best ! They even have a horse sale in October and you can watch buyers bidding on their next harness racer.
This was our first time at the Lexington Junior League and we will come again. It was amazing !! The horses and riders were such an experience to watch !
You must try Bluegrass Bayou Catering! The best Cajun food in the Lexington/Central Kentucky area. Everything is truly authentic. You can't go wrong with any menu items. My favorites by far were the red beans and rice, chicken gumbo, fried catfish and the bread pudding. Check them out! You won't be disappointed. They will open a new restaurant in the Red Mile area near the Springhill Suites in the next month. Mark your calendar...... You won't want to miss it!
Awesomest Racetrack In The World.Just like that.Fell in love with The Red Mile after it was on my bucketlist for waaaayyyyy too long.A Racetrack How A Racetrack Should Be.Close to the horses. It feels like being in the good ole days. Charming restaurant filled with smoke where it is easy to get fat. Love it.Best Racing In The World. They are all there, right in front of you.Never change into these casino-type of tracks, Red Mile. Though i know you will have to adept to survive.I love you.Try to beat this, Dubai.
A normal race track, is no big deal. Only worth going when horses season, is a little sloppy. But it's part of the culture of Lexinton.
been here several times over the last 3 years with our best friends to watch races and see their horses and enjoy it every time. It's a classic racetrack, not the conglomerate type. It's old school harness racing with some of the class bloodlines in the Standardbred Industry.don't miss a chance to go
