We hired some cycles and biked it up to here and its well worth the trip. The trip can also easily be made via the trolleybus. It's a beautiful location with lots of activities. We chose the tree walking and climbing, which was good fun, but can get pretty hairy on some of the higher courses, good fun coming down on the zipline though. If you;re in Riga this is well worth a visit.
After seeing "Old Towns" the last couple days during our round trip, we need to take a break. We visited this park and didn't regret it. It's rather "wood" than a park This park is way.....out of the city centre but with trolly number 11, you'll be there ( the last stop). It is a big park and the zoo is also part of the park, just next to the entrance. It was saturday so a lot of locals spent the time with family in this park. You can find all kind of activities, such as :Rollerblading, having picnic, jogging, letting the dog out, cycling or just strolling around. There are some playgrounds and a lot of food vendors in the park. There are some restaurants in the park. On the left side of the entrance of the park, you can rent a "pedal" cart, rollerblader or a bike but there is also a bike rental (with your credit card), just on the right side of the entrance (€ 0,90 for 30 minutes). Try the cooked corn, it's very delicious.
Is probably worth visiting only if you are in Riga for more than a couple of day. It is actually just a huge park, so - a nice change but probably not a must.
Mežaparks is both a neighborhood of old wooden houses and a large park with Latvia's main open-air stage. The stage is used for Latvia's magnificent Song Festival gala concert and lots of other performances. I myself have seen Andrea Boccelli, Lady Gaga and others there. In recent years the area around the stage has been spruced up nicely with food and beverage vendors and plenty of lavatories. I prefer sitting on the sidelines, where there are tables and chairs, to sitting in the amphitheater itself, where there are only hard wooden benches without backs. The only shortcoming is that private vehicles are not allowed in the park, and the hike from the tram to the amphitheater is a long, long one. That said, for an open-air concert, the place can't be beat.
only 7 km far from Riga you can visit this splendid place: a forest of trees with a romantic lake. You can get there easily by bus or tram number 11.
If you like to feel some sort of Latvia's wild nature in the city I suggest you this place. There's also a place for kids to play.
Lovely to walk through this area and enjoy the mansions of yester year.Modern homes as well and a nice retreat for an afternoon.
It is a remarkable place in Riga - forest and lake, Riga Zoo is located there. You can have a stroll or be more active (joging, roller-skating, cycling etc).By the lake there is nice cafe "Pie Lilijas" - bit oldstyle, reminds of soviet time - but is great barbequed meet, fries etc. Good value for money.
