Unfortunately I was in the area on a Monday when the site was closed so I could just walk around. The building is a replica of a courthouse in which Abraham Lincoln practiced. The original is at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. Parking is convenient and the flowers outside the building were very pretty. I will stop in if the opportunity presents itself.
One of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Courthouses in Illinois where Abraham Lincoln argued cases. Henry Ford acquired the original Postville courthouse and had it reassembled at his Deerfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. This is a replica of the original building. Did not go inside as it was morning and the courthouse does not open until noon.
Sadly, our society has a lack of funding for paid jobs to promote tourism and lack of volunteers to keep our heads above water. It looked like an interesting site, and my plan to visit was completely thwarted.
Lincoln was a circuit riding lawyer in this part of Illinois. The original Postville Courthouse was purchased by Henry Ford and now resides in MI. This is very true to the original. Docents are helpful!
