The Acropolis is absolutely awesome one of the most amazing things I have seen. This is a must see place and you will not be disappointed. WOW!
You can't go to Lindos without taking a hike up to the Acropolis. You can see it from everywhere in Lindos so it will be calling you. If you take a donkey you'll be in for an experience, if you walk up take water with you. Once up there don't rush, just stroll about, Have a look over every wall; inland, out to sea, north, south, east and west. The views are fantastic. Look all around and read all the plynths and notices. Try to imagine what it was. Then when you've had enough take care in walking down. Then go to the nearest bar and treat yourself to a long cold drink. I've now been up there three times and will go up again. Something about something so old but still there. Makes your imagination run riot.
Beautiful location with in a mediaeval castle. The hill is steep so work experiencing the donkey ride, fun! Wee worth a visit for both classic Greek and mediaeval history.
Go early... Mainly because of the heat but also because from 9am onwards coach loads of tourists come to visit the acropolis. It's a very steep walk. Best to wear sensible shoes not flip flops as it can be slippy and dusty. I think it's about 6-8 Euros but worth it for the views and a bit of culture for a break from the beach.
Lindos is a beautiful town with white washed buildings. well kept. The walk up to the acropolis is hard but once at the top you can admire the amazing view
The Acropolis was spectacular. My wife and I were here for a day in February. It rained in the morning and scared most people away so we had the place to ourselves for more than an hour. The views from the top were great. The site has been semi restored so you can get an idea of what it looked like. There was some construction equipment around the site, cranes and small loader, but in order to preserve the site work must be done. I was still able to get nice pics. Since it was February the town was mostly closed. A bar was open and small market that was it, if traveling in offseason bring lunch and a little imagination. Have fun!!!
The village is lovely with its white houses surrounded by the blue sea. The road to the acropolis is not an easy one.you can reach it on feet; stairs to go up. You'd better be physicslly fit to endure the ascent.otherwise, you can make use of local donkeys.the castle was under reconstruction/renovation. Surrounded by huge walls. Other steps will lead you to the top where the ruins of Athena temple reside.the view from the top is awesome. Photos are highly recommended.
I am one of those annoying travellers who just love ruins! This is a spectacular one! Well worth the climb, the beauty of just the view is amazing, never mind the real sense of history there. I love Imagining the myriads of people who were before our time, living and indeed worshipping there, so I was a very happy man indeed. A real must-see place on your travels in Rhodes.
