It is just a lot of fun. Rarely, does the West live up to what most people think of, when they think of the Wild West. The Cattle Drive is an example of how the West was won.
The Reno Rodeo is a blast for people of all ages. There is bull riding, wrangling, riding, etc. as well as a full carnival and all sorts of food and beverages. There is even a firework show towards the end. Cowboy hats are not requried, but are highly encouraged.
I signed up with my 18 year old niece as she just graduated and I wanted her to have a memorable milestone before college. The trip was truly amazing and started with a gunfight in Doyle then off to the first campsite. We stayed in our bedrolls and shared a tent. After pitching our tents we checked out the horses and rode a bit. Saw three rattlesnakes that appeared non-threatening..I was assigned Blaze, a horse that had spirit and stepped out. Blaze I later discovered was a real cow horse and enjoyed nipping the tails of slow steers.....perfect. Jett however was a bit on the slow side. We were assigned to Teal Team and bonded with our teammates during the cow-boy and cow-chip olympics. Our evenings were spent out under the moonlight and stars..Nv has beautiful sunsets and we wern't dissapointed. Real roughing it camping and pack up your own stuff. Dont overpack and if your afraid of getting dirty and dusty dont come. Lots of traveling toilets and a portable washing sink. The food was gourmet western style and abundant..Home made dutch oven biscuits and healthy option for those health minded. The traveling saloon was also a high point after a long day on the dusty trail. Wranglers were knowledgable and entertaining. My niece learned the value of tent ettiquette. " The tent gets packed up before breakfast and cleaned before dinner".. Elizabeth wrote and recited a poem she wrote about the west during talent night . The next day we rode our last last ride into the Reno Rodeo stadium...we were both a bit sad as we would both miss Blaze, Jett and those cattle calls.
Great rodeo. There is still a little bit of the American Spirit still alive at this event. There is fun for the whole family here.
I had the most wonderful time. The organisers thought of everything. There were showers, a bar and the food was outstanding. I can understand why people go there every year. I suggest you stay at the pepermill hotel for the two days before the start of the drive as there are events laid on before and after the end of the drive.
If you are lucky enough to be near Reno for the annual rodeo you must go. We went on Friday and had a great time, all you would expect of a rodeo, brilliantly executed and topped off with a motorbike show as a finale. Great fun.
I do not like the fake environment by all the people that pretend to be cowboys for a day, but I do like the way the women fill out those wrangler jeans. Over all it is a fun time for people of all walks.
This is a must see event. If you're a rodeo fan or not, watching the cattle driven down the streets of Reno is a once a year treat! This marks the beginning of the Rodeo every year.
This is a once in a lifetime experience. If someone does not go on the drive one could always wait until the cattle drive makes its destination through Reno. Almost more cowpokes then cows but the finale though the streets is worth it. Also keeps the street sweeper busy afterwards.
We had a wonderful evening watching the Reno Rodeo. The little kids that rode the sheep bare back were hysterical...and the gals that did the barrel racing was lots of fun. The bronc riders are most amazing and from our seats (bought at the event) we saw everything. Be careful where you sit as the early evening sun and wind can be brutal! Great fun for the whole family...with rides and carnival food too...not cheap, but enjoyed the event.
