The lake is pretty cool but the water is very dirty and gross. There is a swan there that is very beautiful and the birds follow people a lot. The park is pretty good for the kids, it's pretty well kept.
It's a great place in the middle of a closein Reno neighborhood--convenient, plenty of parking, lots of birds, a fishing pier, play equipment, a covered eating area, flowers in season. You can bring your leashed dogand strollers for the 1 mile loop around the lake. You can bike around the perimeter.
Nice little lake, great for morning walks! They are doing some construction on East side of lake, but wasn't a terrible distraction.
We do go to this park quite often as I enjoy the walking trail all around the park. It is a decent walk for me and my dogs at about a mile or so, with playgrounds and benches to stop along the way. There is an island in the middle of the lake and lots and lots of birds so if you dislike birds do not go to this park! At the moment there is some controversy as to what to do about the seasonal die-off of the ducks when the water loses its oxygenation in the summer. Other seasons there is no problem. There are a few picnic tables with benches and there are plenty of trash cans.
This lake is a short distance from the Peppermill. The lake is very low of water now, but there's still some ducks and geese swimming around. The lake is 1 mile around and is easy walking. It's a good place to take your dog for a walk. There's also a play ground there for the children. There's also picnic tables if you want to purchase something and take it there to eat your lunch. Very good location and we've never seen homeless people there. We do see police driving around the lake. It's a safe place to walk or jog.
Loved this area did many 5 mile runs around Virginia Lake and plenty of outdoor fun...Lived close by there so I spent many days there loved being outside...miss those days..
I like it! there are alot of people out walking, it is very warm in Reno and there is alot of diffrent birds here not just ducks. People keep there dogs on leashes, and there are picnic tables.
The neighborhood is not the best, lots of unsavory characters creeping around the lake and park. I won't take my child there. It's a shame, there's lots of ducks he would love to see and feed.
I love that Virginia Lake is smack dab in the middle of Reno! I enjoy walking the 1 mile loop 3 times. I love the several species of water fowl as well as the resident swan.
Outdoor parks and recreation are not the strong suit of a town that wants to keep you inside their casinos; and Virginia Lake Park is not going to draw many tourists from the casino floors. A dirty lake surrounded with dead vegetation and a fair number of homeless. Not much city pride here.
