Plaza de Oriente is a beautiful park right across from the Palacio Real ( royal palace) in Madrid. If you are looking for something with moving parts like Pirate of the Caribbean in Disneyland, this is not for you. If you, however, want to soak up the magnificent elegance of Spanish architecture and spent some quality relaxing time with your significant other, don't miss it. Here's a hint; there are outdoor cafes in the periphery with fantastic views of the Palace and they are open even in winter (with space heaters). Have something to drink and a few tapas; people watching is always in season in the Spanish capital and this is a good spot to to do. It is also very elegant and it does make you feel that your are in Europe, if you know what I mean.
Rest your feet and breathe some fresh air while viewing the magnificent Palacio Real across the way. Benches, green space, manicured gardens, a few statues and a small kids' play area at one end. Lots of people enjoying the space on a glorious Sunday afternoon in early March, but it still felt peaceful and relaxing.
If you are checking out the Royal Palace, do make a stop here as it is right next door. There was a Hand Made Souvenir shop, which had a large selection, reasonable prices and took credit card. The Plaza itself seemed to be a mini version of the larger retire park for folks to have their lunch next to a large fountain and see a couple of nice statues.
A little over-hyped, I think. You would need to be told or read the signs to know you were in the middle of Plaza de Oriente. Nothing much to see or do. If you like a quiet, peaceful "retreat" this is a to-die-for.
This place is situated next to the Opera. Look for it and seat outside where the view is the Palace. This is not a typical Spanish cafe but a common EUropean one, still seat around for the atmosphere and the people.
The Oriente Square and its surroundings have been remodelled and greatly enhanced with spacious pedestrian areas that allow you to fully appreciate the grandeur of the place.
This is a lovely location, opening up from walking past Opera to see the Palacio Real, and then you can turn right and walk on to see the Sabatini Gardens. That corner is a popular spot at the weekends for bridal couples having their photos taken.
Great location, must be beautiful with all flowers in bloom but very pleasant in the winter time.Statues of the early monarchs, perfectly appointed classy buildings around, next to the Opera (gosh, will stage Traviata from April).Nice basking in the January sun.
This park is across from the Royal Palace. Many statues to see. Great park to relax in after you visit the Palace.
The beautiful "Plaza de Oriente", located adjacent to the Royal Palace, is a large square and very characteristic above all for the beauty and care of the gardens that surround it, ideal for photos and why not, even for a short break in one of the many bars of this wonderful place.
