Nice zoo - quite large. We like to visit zoos about everywhere we go, and this one was nice. They have a large quantity of 4 wheel bicycles - wish we would have rented one - place is spread out. A few of the enclosures could be bigger, but they seem to be adding bigger enclosures for some exhibits. The bird atrium is the largest I've ever seen. Place seems quite kid-focused, as zoos should be I suppose. Glad we went.
The Miami Zoo is a huge place. The location and surrounding area was beautiful. I like that it was surrounded by trees and plants. The grounds were well maintained and clean. The place is so big that they rent you bikes that can fit multiple amounts of people for a price. I think it is a great option if you have kids that don't like to walk or if you have adults with standing or walking too long. The exhibits were nice and well grouped together. They have a variety of different animals found in different regions of the world. They have a water play park for the kids. It is free but make sure to have water socks because you need shoes to be able to play there and a change of clothing to get wet. We would of enjoyed that if it was the summer. They also have a nice playground for the kids to play when you need a break. Food was okay, but expensive. You need to make sure you look at all your food options before you buy it. We found a small taco stand further out of the central food area and it was cheaper but also looked like it would taste better than your average burger or hot dog. Overall the kids enjoyed it and the value to get in was worth it. Of course if you want to save money I would pack snacks etc...
My wife and I are senior citizens and have limited financial resources. Having said this we didn't think the admission price with our discount was too bad. There is a lot of walking required and not that many animals to see. Many of them are at a fair distance away and not easily seen unless you look hard for them. Many exhibits are in various stages of reconstruction and are temporarily closed. Most snack places are closed. Renting bikes is very expensive. Mono rail is not running at this time. Food at the one grille we found open is quite expensie and not all that good. Signage is poor and we had a hard time figuring out where we were some of the time. Exhibits are not marked with corresponding numbers with the map they give you for free. We are from Michigan and the Detroit Zoo makes this one disappointing.
One of the best zoos in the world. Very large park, great variety of species, most animals roam free in most of the exhibits. The gigantic aviary "Wings of the World" is incredible. Very much worth the visit. Very, very hot, in summer months. Best enjoyed Oct. to May.
I hadn't been to this zoo in at least 10 years & I'm sorry to say it's not as good as it used to be. While it does have some fun areas for kids it seems old & dated. I usually LOVE the zoo--any zoo. But not this time. Hope they are working to improve it.
We really enjoyed Zoo Miami. It had many different species and varieties of animals. There were large enclosures for the animals such as the tigers and elephants. We liked the signs at each exhibit giving details about the specific animals in each enclosure, such as their name and how large they are.We stumbled upon a volunteer who was very informative about the Bengal Tiger, I had no idea that tigers like to swim. We also happened upon the Zookeeper for the African Elephants, they were giving great information to those watching. The Zoo is very large so if you have kids make sure the bring the stroller if you want to walk, or rent the bicycle. My only suggestion would be to have a bike rental stand at the far end away from the entrance. We did not rent one at the beginning, but by the time we got to the other end and had to walk back, we were wishing there would have been a rental place so we could ride back.We felt the food prices were reasonable, but the way they determined who ordered what was very confusing and the workers even confused several orders.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon. The zoo was busy, but there is plenty of room for everyone. The exhibits are designed so a lot of people can see into them at one time. The animals looked healthy, their spaces seemed large enough for their size and the place was very clean. I would suggest you allow at least 4 hours if you are going to walk the whole route - it is long. There are a lot of other options, though, we saw bikes, covered "bikes" with two rows of seats for families, and a tram over and over throughout the day. Cost was $17.95 with a AAA discount and very worth it. Nice place, knowledgeable staff and easy walking surface.
We took our kids to the Miami Zoo, and loved it. .The exibits were large and impressive. The dinosaur exibit was there too, which they loved. Lots of fun, we spent most the day here.
We, a family of four - visited Zoo Miami in December last week and enjoyed the overall experience. About the zoo - it is very large, had multiple zones/sections, it seemed to be a very well maintained zoo and animal enclosures seemed to be fairly large. The exhibits covered variety of animals and birds. Overall, it is worth the visit!!!One piece of advice: If you plan to walk the entire zoo, considering its size - you may not go too far! The key is to rent the bicycles near the entrance and I am glad we did it. They offer two varieties - one accommodates 2 people and the other one accommodates 4 people. We rented the 4 people bicycle and our kids really loved it - we were able to cover all exhibits in about 4 hours time and cycling certainly contributed to positive experience.
A nice and large zoo, we spent a few hours walking the length of it. They offer tricles/bicycles if you do not wish to walk. some of the bicycles were made for four people. The enclosures looked large and clean for the animals, the staff was friendly and helpful with information. They had a large variety of animals from all over, there was plenty of shade for viewers and animals. A good family day! very inexpensive ($17.00)
