We visited the arch from the top on a carriage tour that took us there. (We don't do much climbing and hiking.) It was pretty spectacular from there, but didn't compare to seeing it from below. We rented bicycles and rode around the M-185 - if we can do it, most anyone can. There is a great place at the bottom to stop and enjoy the Arch, have a snack and some water (provided you packed something), visit the rocky shore, enjoy the lake, even make a rock pile to mark that you have been there! Please take time to enjoy this landmark while on the island.
I enjoyed this attraction but it was really crowded-which I found strange because we were there off season and the rest of the attractions we saw were virtually uninhabited. It was also QUITE windy up there- in March it's very cold. But it was a gorgeous view and very interesting!
We first discovered Arch Rock while biking around the circumference of The Island. We discovered it is quite a sight to see from both below or above. And when you view from above, make sure to look down into the water for messages people sometimes write with large rocks in the clear water........super cool!
This is s beautiful view overlooking the river through a natural arch. Amazing what nature creates. Just take a quick stop to check it out. Usually pretty crowded though.
Took a hike up to see the gorgeous views and beautiful natural colors of the lake. Be sure not to miss this spot! Natural rock formation at its finest!
Amazing views, a great place to bike or walk to. Directions: take trails on upper part of island to East Bluff & around, or go on Lake Shore Road and look for new 2014 wooden stairs up to the top. http://www.mappery.com/map-of/Mackinac-Island-Map
Some say it's overrated but every year we ride out bikes up and take in the beautiful views of Lake Huron. This will always be a tradition!
We came here multiple times during our trip because of the views and the accessibility of it. It's a quick hike/bike ride (although I wasn't totally able to bike up all the super steep hills, it was bike-able for the most part) from the main strip, and well worth a stop, hands down.
You must see everything on the island. It is just a fun trip! We drove 16 hours with a 2 1/2 year old and we plan on making the trip again.
especially when I realized the arch was fortified with cement!? Crazy...But, for what it was...it was a nice little view...
