What a wonderful group of people, dedicated to helping sea turtles. A very educational experience, I would recommend to any human who may be concerned for our marine life and the impact that we are having on our ocean environment. A noble undertaking, considering that they are also a non-profit facility. Arrive a bit early, to read the history and actually touch some of the various turtle artifacts in the main area. The outdoor tour includes various types of resident sea turtles, some are in the midst of rehab, others are permanent residents due to the nature of their injuries. While we were visiting, some near-by residents of the Keys had contacted the hospital and together had brought in an injured sea turtle for them to evaluate. The gift shop also had some nice items to purchase, and the profit from these sales are used to further help the sea turtles.
My husband and I love animals of all sorts and when we travel we search for attractions that allow us to learn about them. The Turtle Hospital did not disappoint. The lobby area has very informative displays and the staff are friendly. The tour was about an hour and a half long. Our guide was very well informed and seemed to enjoy her job. Also she was thrown off track by random questions. We would visit the hospital again and are very glad they do the important work they do.
Very educational tour about rescuing and rehabilitating turtles. Great for kids too! Highly recommend..
You will leave here feeling like you have made new friends... with people and turtles. They share the individual stories of most of the turtles which makes the whole visit more meaningful. I thought I knew a good bit about turtles, but I learned sooooo much more!
My wife loves turtles, especially sea turtles. The Turtle Hospital was a priority on our visit to Marathon. The hospital does an amazing job with the turtles and everyone one there clearly cares very much about their work. Our tour guide was very nice and very knowledgable. They give a nice educational talk before taking you into the hospital exam area where they perform diagnostic studies and surgeries. Then they take you outside to see some of the current patients and residents. Learning just how susceptable the turtles are to pollutants, debris, and certain fishing apparatus was very eye opening for us. I encourage everyone visiting the keys to make a trip to the Turtle Hospital and support the important job these people are doing.
Knowledgable staff - nice facilities for the turtles, impressive rescue and release work.Learned a good deal about the turtle species; no hands on tanks - but you do feed the turtles green peppers and lettuce.Met a woman who rescued a turtle from Key Largo who came to visit "her turtle"
We were driving to Key West and saw this a long the road side. The others decided they wanted to check it out so I grudgingly went. To my surprise it was a very interesting and a few a great learning experience. I would recommend this for all ages. There is a short walk involved but I'd you're handicapped they have a golf cart to assist you.
Visiting the turtle hospital was a great experience. The visit does pull on your heart strings a bit but it is great to see people giving of themselves to help these wonderful creatures. Plus, the money all goes to the Turtle Hospital.
Visiting the Turtle Hospital is one of my favorite memories of the Keys. Loved learning about the Sea Turtles. The staff is so informative, the facility is very clean and impressive. We even got to feed them. They do wonderful rescue and release work. I only wish we could have been there for a release day.
A great place to visit! Very knowledgeable staff! The information session at the beginning is very enlightening. Even the 3 year old in our group was engaged and quoted turtle facts for days afterward! We were able to see part of a surgery in progress. Feeding the permanent residents was a hit. These people do great work saving these amazing endangered animals. The Turtle Hospital is a must see on every trip through the keys! I'll be going back...
