Well...we rented a villa and had a free membership to the tryall beach club in Montego Bay. Here's the problem...the beach is crappy at Tryall Club...rough waters and filled with seaweed, etc...One of my first experiences with Jamaica and I was very disappointed. Are there better beaches than this? I was used to the beautiful beaches of St. John where you could snorkel and the sand was very white. Doctors Cave Beach enter the picture....decided to try out the beach here. $6 admittance fee but well worth it....also charge to rent an umbrella and chair...$5 for snorkel gear. The water here is blue and clear....not much to see while snorkeling but the kids had a blast. Just saw little fishies, nothing too exciting...no reef or anything....Would visit Jamaica again because of the people and hospitality...definitely not for the beaches. However Doctors Cave Beach made me feel hopeful again...also 2 large trampoline type things in the water for anyone to jump on and into the water. The staff at the restaurant on the beach was very attentive and made sure we had drinks and food. Our waiter Steven was very nice....All in all...a good beach to go to while in Jamaica!
We have been to Jamaica several times off of cruise ships. Doctors cave is the nicest beach we have visited so far. It is a little expensive because they charge a entrance fee and they charge extra for chairs and umbrellas. The drinks and food on the beach are expensive also. If you don't mind spending a little money then this is a beautiful beach.
My first piece of advise for frugal travelers like me is to go ahead and pay for the excursion and do not try to "wing it" on your own. Jamaica is a little rougher area than other Caribbean ports of call.Doctor's Cave Beach is small but very beautiful with its white sands and clear water. The people are friendly and there are plenty of people willing to wait on you.Although marijuana use is illegal in Jamaica it does not stop people from trying to sell it to you. This is mainly on the street outside of the beach but you may be approached on the beach as well. Every once in a while you will smell the distinct smell of it. Overall, this is a minor nuisance. If you go in the winter, it may take a while to adjust to the weather and the sun. When you go from a climate around freezing to the 80's in the bright sun it takes a surprising toll on you physically. It is best to gradually acclimate to the change of temperature and not overdo it.
On the positive side, it's right in town, clean beach and has many amenities. The problems I found were about every 5 minutes someone came by asking you to order or purchase something. Also, the beach area is small and closed off. We had a much better experience on Seven Mile beach in Negril, less interruptions and a much more personal space.
We took a cab from the Iberostar rosehall suites to spend the day at this gorgeous beach. The sand and water compared to our hotel was magnificent. It was $35 each way in the cab, but it was worth it. Water is crystal clear and amazing to swim and snorkel in. We saw stingrays, lots of fish and some star fish. Great food and drinks at the little restaurant. Great adventure outside of the hotel. $6 entrance, $6 per chair
What a beautiful beach! Our first day we spent the entire time on the beach. It was amazing! We did not need to travel far to get food or drinks as we did not pack a bag. But the locals were right there with food and drinks for sale.
I love this place! White sand, crystal blue water. Jet ski rentals ($50 for 30 minutes). affordable snorkel gear to rent at the life guard stand. The beach is very clean. The servers would come out from the bar and bring drinks and food while we were there. Great service. Affordable clean beach for around 5 bucks per person. Will return!
This is the best beach in montego bay highly recommended if you looking forva great white sand beach in montego bay
We arrived from our cruise ship with 13 teenagers and 9 adults. We were prepared for the $5 cab ride, $6 entrance fee, $6 chair fee and $6 umbrella fee. The beach and water were very nice. The lunch was good. Our kids had a great time! We felt safe and had no problems at all. Compared to the $80/person resort fee that was quoted to us, this was an economical and fun choice for our day in Montego Bay!
Doctor's Cave Beach is clean, secure and uncrowded on days when cruise ships are not docked, the water is warm. Location in Montego Bay is central, access is easy, costs are reasonable, vendors are prohibited. Great place to spend a day in the sun
