The Hummingbirds just fly all around you! Feel like you have to duck to keep from getting hit but could stand for hours watching them. And it's free!
It is a fun (free) experience to see theses little guys refuel. A must see as they are not afraid of humans and will sit on your finger as they feed.
Like you could resist seeing all these hummingbirds anyway! We went twice: once to see the birds and once at night to see the bats. I don't know anything about hummingbirds, but I counted 7 different varieties and took amazing pictures. You can sit on benches and they'll come right to the feeders in front of you. If there's a guide or bird pro around, they'll gladly share their knowledge about what you're seeing. Costa Rica is world famous for birds, so you just can't pass this by.
You will never be able to get so close and personal with hummingbirds than at this place. The numerous feeders in the well-design front patio attract a great variety of hummingbirds found in this area. Photographers will go a bit nuts trying to get all of the species that zoom around at breakneck speeds. The gallery and shop is also very nice, with a great variety of local and typical merchandise for every price range. Add to that the incredible photos of Michael and Patricia Fogden who for decades have been recording Costa Rica's wildlife, you have a wonderful stop and experience. Cap it with a nice light lunch and coffee next door.
This is right by the cloud forest reserve and is absolutely wonderful! The hummingbirds come so close that you can feel their wings beating. If you're lucky, they'll even land on your hands. There are also a couple of coatimundi wandering around
A very enjoyable experience at Monteverde Cloud Forest. The hummingbirds are so close to you, you can see all their different colors and hear their wings. Really beautiful.
This is the most fun activity during our 4 hour visit to the Cloud Forest. It's a must see during your visit and its FREE! (Donations Preferred). The hummingbirds are two feet away from your face and there are dozens of them. You can even touch the hummingbirds. Very Cool
This stop was fantastic! The hummingbirds were numerous, feeding at numerous sugar water feeders. They buzz right by your head! Also seen at the feeders were some Bananaquits and one thirsty coati!! It was a great place to stop. We enjoyed a cup of coffee while watching the little guys!
A few hummingbird feeders outside of the Monteverde reserve so really a commercial endeavor. Saw a few varieties but we saw more birds, with more room, in a more natural environment in a better venue at Selvatura (fee for that, however). See my Selvatura review separately.
Lots and lots of birds who came for drinks, and some even sit on you hand while drinking. Small, beautiful birds in so many colours.
