Second beach is a long broad beautiful beach with surfing possible on one end. It is packed in the summer but winter beach walks on an empty beach are very relaxing.
The best part of going off season is the free parking and lack of crowds. I believe it costs $20 per car on weekends during the summer. The beach is great for walking and your dogs are welcomed this time of year. The beach is still clean and you can get a nice long walk in with beautiful scenic views. We even saw some pretty birds which came over from the Norman Bird Sanctuary from across the street.
The town of Middletown obviously doesn't want to make waste water management a priority. There is raw sewage flowing into Sachuest Bay. The smell is overwhelming and I was horrified to learn, after further investigation, that it was not a storm drain pipe but a sewer pipe pumping untreated, raw sewage into the water inches away from kids swimming and surf lessons. It is both sickening and depressing that this has been an ongoing problem that has yet to be seriously addressed. It is 2014 and we still have antiquated systems draining harmful bio hazard material into our swimming holes? It's hard to believe that this still goes on. There is not a single good excuse.
Beautiful scenery, lots of dogs playing and not super crowded. Fun to watch the surfers, lots of parking and easy to get to.
We walked along the shore although it was in November not December. It's a great beach to go to in the summer. It does have a fee ( I believe to park & enter) but there was no fee in the colder months we parked & just walked along the beach. It's beautiful & pristine. In the summer this beach is so popular it does get crowded. Over all it's a great beach!!
We had a very nice beach day at Sachuest Beach. Where we sat was very busy -close to where the entrance was but there was nice stretches to walk where there were few people. There was a lot of red seaweed which may have also contributed to people bunching together on the beach. We brought a picnic with us but also bought some food from their cafe it was a nice treat. The bathrooms were busy but clean enough and the walk to and from the car is pretty short.
This is a beautiful, beautiful, peaceful place where you can take an easy walk and experience the ocean, the rocks, the wildlife, the wild flora and the sunshine. Just exquisite. Been back several times and never get tired of it. If you're in the Newport area, take a break from the restaurants and chatchke shops and get over here.
Well, just tow hours from Boston, Newport offers the Mansion tours, national sailing events, many restaurants and a beautiful coastal setting. Have been here a few times but 1st time in the fall. Came to watch friends run the Newport Marathon and couldn't have asked for a prettier course or better day. Most of the course hugs the coastline na dif you were not too focused on your personal time should serve as a very enjoyable setting.
This is a lovely, small beach with adequate parking. Within walking distance are hotels and great eating places. You are also not far from the Tennis Hall of Fame and many shops are also within walking distance. The beach itself,is clean and well sheltered. Great views also of some of Newports beautiful houses.
When we were there (mid-september), the bathrooms and everythng else was locked up and boarded up. There was a port-a-john. Pretty place, not crowded in September.
