I live quite close to here and have never visited before. What a suprise. Not only some fabulous walks but this park is also steep in history. The park used to be a zoo and their are some nice stories in the cafe about the elephant that used to reside their.Their are good facilities that appear to be open all year round: a cafe, a tea-room, toilets, art gallery, gift shop, two castles, world war 2 battlements, lakes, a garden centre and even a theatre.I would highly recommend a visit to this country park. It is one of the best I have been in.
Lots to do and see and the new courtyard places to eat are an added bonus. Lovely for a walk with the dog or the kids/grand kids they can explore the castle ruins, have fun in the adventure playgrounds and then something to eat and drink in one of the many eating places - from a snack to a full meal. Well worth a visit.
Love the fact that you can borrow their mobility scooter and take it on a trip round the park. The office will provide you with a map showing the routes suitable for the scooter. Although I can only walk a very short distance I can now borrow the scooter and take my dog for huge walks!
visited with children and grandchildren. Loads to do, the kids love the adventure playground and the nearby gun emplacements, and remains of Mugdock Castle.. We had a quick lunch in the tea room, which was very tasty
I have been coming here for over 20 years first with both my now adult children then with friends to run / walk or have a lovely lunch .Now I come 3 or 4 times a week with my puppy . It has something for everyone , kids have the park adventure park and the visitor centre not to mention lots of space and woods to play in . Adults have lots of lovely walks , runs or cycle tracks as well as 3 places for food all nice depending on what your tastes are , you can even get a glass of wine as one is now licensed . Check out the website regular as lots goes on all year round for all ages you can even come and watch a film , have a go at archery or tour around Mugdock castle .Since getting a puppy I have discovered paths and woods I didn't know exsisted ! I'm seeing this place through different eyes . I love everything about it , just check it out as there is too much to see and do to write here .
Kids have always loved this place and it's still a favourite to walk the dog and have a catch up with family. Plenty of variation in where you can roam.
Built for battle, not for showing off riches. A proper castle, well worth seeing. Below is a small and beautiful loch where swans were swimming. Perhaps they embodied the souls of the witches who were drowned there! Just a thought....a morbid little thought.
Park at visitors centre, walk towards Craigend Castle, go behing it over the red bridge and onto the road to find accress to the forrest. Keep left, follow the path down the hill owards Carbeth lodges follow the West Highland Way around the loch. When you come out at the road walk up the hill to take you back to Mugdock Country Park
