I recently stayed in the area with my family and had dinner in the clubhouse. The food and service were outstanding. It was so good that we went back for lunch a few days later! Ted, who runs the dining facilities, is very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Be sure to stop by the bar for a drink and talk to Vaughn as well.
While staying at a local resort my wife and I decided to try the Rock Grill & Patio for dinner and it was easily the best meal of our trip. The atmosphere and view from the patio overlooking the course was idyllic and the staff was friendly and accommodating. John and Wendy M.
What's to dislike about The Rock? Some demanding holes and some easy holes. However it is the type of course you need to play a few times before you get the layout and shots figured out on some of the holes. I wonder how this gem did not get rated in Score Magazine's Top 100.Excellent Pro Shop and dining staff.
Beautiful course, but too difficult for a high handicapper. The clubhouse staff were friendly and helpful.
Moderately difficult course. Well maintained and beautiful setting. The leafs were just starting to turn golden which made the scenery ever more spectacular.
The Rock at the J.W. Marriott Resort in Minett, Muskoka, ON, Canada is one tough test of golf. Having revisited and changing the original design over what it initially opened as in 2004, the course is so much more playable and less glitchy with too much Muskoka granite exposed as hazards. Not to say that the rocks along with the water and sand traps don't make it tough enough. Be prepared to bring and maybe lose a few sleeves of balls. But if you don't take the game too seriously, you will enjoy the elevation differences and views, especially in the autumn when the leaves turn.
Check out the packages offered to nine and dine. be sure to stop for a bite to eat after your golf -the restaurant is very good.
Waitress was patient (table of 9, with 5 kids), friendly and helpful. Food was good; great kids meals. Patio is a very enjoyable place to eat. No bugs, quiet, nice view.
Great golf course, just a bit tougher than our usual one. Club house has been renovated - makes for a great after game meal. The Greens are well kept and, overall, the course looks very well looked after. If in Muskoka, I would highly recommend playing a round here.
I am 66 years old and play to a 16 handicap and played the Green Tees. I have played great courses all over North America and the Middle East and the only course that comes close to the Rock is Cabot Links in Cape Breton, but having said that it is a links course. The Rock is the most picturesque course I have played, combined with the elevation changes and the hazards it is one tough puppy! The Pro shop staff was great, the course in excellent shape, the weather was great and it made for one fantastic round of golf!
