We fished the private waters on the Eagle River in late March. To start, they couldn't have been any kinder to us at check in. My two buddies and I had a unique guide experience. Instead of being coaxed and buttered up in regards to our skills, he chewed us out for everything we were not doing correctly. The guide took personal jabs at us all. We found the experience quite hilarious, yet very educational. The three 23 inch plus rainbows weren't the best part, it was the comraderie and banter with our guides. We Highly recommend Minturn Anglers.
This was the second guided fishing trip my wife and I booked. Our guide, Tom, picked us up on time from our Vail Valley hotel and drove us to Miturn to be outfitted with waders. We then headed to Tom's local favorite fishing spots. He may have over-estimated our fishing skills because Tom kept saying that the area where we fished required good "technical" skills (which I doubt my wife and I -- who are novice anglers) had. The weather was also cruddy, which likely compounded our inability to hook any fish. Regardless, we loved being outside, Tom was very patient and enthusiastic, and we had a great time. We look forward to more fishing adventures, whether in the Vail Valley area or elsewhere. And we'll be sure to book again with Minturn Anglers when we return to this area.
This is a great fly shop in Minturn. After reading many reviews of fly shops, I decided to book a day wading trip with them. My guide, Andrew Smith, was awesome! I am a novice fly fisherman who hasn't done it in years. Andrew had me on the water and catching fish in no time at all. Andrew had 3 rods ready and was beside me the entire time to untangle a line, net a fish or give me a shoulder to hold on to as we wadded across the river. If you are looking for a great fishing experience, look no further. I would highly recommend requesting Andrew and I will personally use Andrew and Minturn Anglers again!!!
My husband and I and our 3 boys all took the Flyfishig 101 course at the Minturn shop in Vail Valley. The class was spot on with the instruction and the river guides were knowledgeable and fun! A beautiful day on the beautiful Eagle River!
Took a fly fishing class and look what I caught thanks to Tim, Nick, Brian and Maverick over at Minturn Anglers my first time out. The guys at the shop are awesome. I would recommend them to anyone interested in learning how to fly fish!
Was visiting Vale, Colorado with my husband and kids and one of the things I wanted to do on this trip was try Fly Fishing. Little did I know that this day would be one that we would never forget. Robert Gibbes and Nick Mahaffey were two of the most knowledgeable and patient guys I had ever met. Our family had never fly fished before. These guys showed up at our hotel with so much enthusiasm it was absolutely contagious. Everything from getting the one day fishing license, to putting on the gear, was seamless. We were taken to a stream where there was no one for miles. The scenery was beautiful. Robert and Nick took their time showing us the ropes and never once did we feel like they were annoyed or bored. Not only did they teach us the proper technique for the type of conditions we were in ( a little windy) - they also explained why they use certain flys and what the fish are really thinking. Out of everything we did in Vale and Denver, this trip was by far our favorite. Cannot imagine spening the day with anyone other than Robert and Nick. You will thank me! Enjoy!
Nick was outstanding in his patient instruction and also taking us to a stream full of brown trout. My wife had never tried fly fishing so she spent the afternoon enjoying the wading and scenery, practicing her casts. It has been too many years since I used to toss the fly, so I was very rusty and scared off the big ones. Even so, I had 5 or 6 on the line and landed several fish. As evening approached they were really jumping and even though our 4 hours had long since expired, Nick was eager to keep us fishing. But alas we sadly needed to call it quits to attend a dinner event. Excellent guide, excellent equipment and excellent water!
Edward and Tom took 6 adult non fishermen for a 3/4 day private guided adventure. They taught us the basics of fly fishing, including getting into waders and walking in the river. The excitement of my daughter in law catching the largest trout they had ever seen on the Eagle River near Gypsum was special. The guides were knowledgeable and patient. Each of thought that it was a great family experience. Beware that it is expensive $880 for us before tip.
I took the Two-Day Weekend Fly-Fishing School and I can't say enough about the experience. I have never been taught anything as well as Erin Hale taught the class. He was incredibly thorough, entertaining, and passionate. The second day was all on the river with a 3:1 guide to student ratio. If you have always considered fly-fishing you absolutely should take this class. If you are already a fly-fishermen I highly recommend visiting their shop where you will find extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable anglers to assist you.
We had a guided 3/4 day fly fishing trip with Maverick Conklin. Our 5 and 6 year old boys were with us as well. Maverick was on time, extremely knowledgeable about the area and very pleasant and patient with the kids. We had a beautiful day at Piney Lake and would highly recommend Maverick and Minturn Anglers!
