Cost 11euro each to get in with free parking but you have to pay the fellow for 'car safety'. Look it was interesting and nice to see, water freezing, and there are blokes with whistles everywhere stopping you from going up the gorge and down the gorge so you are really restricted where you can go and the place was packed. Not sure it was worth it really.
It was the first place to visit in this Holiday and since it was the first time I drove in Sicily i was afraid i will not find it ,but it is very easy to find and the adress on Tripadvisor will take you exactly in the parking area. There were a lot of people mainly locals,we went for a walk in the botanic garden and seeing the nice views of the valley, then we went down in valley and we had to cross the river alcantara......and the first thing i got was a shock ......the water was freezing cold.Wecrossed the stram in shallow water and we put our things down and decided to swim.It was very cold but the place in fabolous ,so you can not refuse to swim. Then we were hungy and we upstairs to the rest. were we had lunch and drank some local beer .Irecomment a visit to this place it is very nice
What an experience at the gole, Lovely nature walks that lead to these amazing falls surley one of the most amazing places in Sicily a must for all nature loving people. Be sure to have some tracking shoes on as it could be a bit slippery at times.
With so many other fantastic things to do in Sicily do not bother to waste your time here. The parking was free but the entry to the 'park' cost us €11 each and the only worthwhile thing to see was the gorge itself, which was heaving with people - see photo. There was at least a lift down. All the walks were very shoddy indeed, burnt out, or closed off - the prickly pear walk had graffiti on the few pear plants ... It was all very sad, and the museum was the worst we have ever seen, we decided, with four rooms with printed boards on them. The food was canteen food and we didn't bother with it. Save your money and don't waste your time - go somewhere else!
Very interesting location, you have to travel by car or take a tour. The location is a bit run down, could be much better.
A small gorge with some very interesting rock formations and a very cold stream. Worth seeing but once you've seen it that's about all there is for your 10 euros. Another "attraction" created where none existed before. We visited on a quiet day and so the place was quite peaceful. If it was heaving though, most of its appeal will have gone.
Water is approx. 10-12 degrees, but very, very clear. It is so bright, you can drink it! For more information, check out www.parcoalcantara.it
Don't enter the gorge through the carpark entrance. Continue on the road for about 300m and there is a free entrance on the left side, it is a set of steps. There is a ticket booth just before the steps and turnstiles but just ignore all of this and go down the steps. Ignore anyone who asks you to pay, because you only need to pay if you take the elevator down. Once down the place is quite nice. Take reef shoes or wear flip flops because the stones are hard on the feet. Its a nice place if you have a few days in the area and want to check out something away from taormina and the beach scene for a couple of hours. The water is cool and refreshing and the rock formations interesting. Easy to reach by car and also by bus from taormina or giardini although timetable is somewhat limited. If you are pressed for time I would not recommend it as a must see.
Rock formations amazing. Needs better access for disabled people, a little expensive l thought 10 euros, to enter.
