This is one of many great places to see for free in the Munising area. We got a lot of good information and maps to all of the waterfalls from a visit to Pictured Rocks National LakeshoreHiawatha National ForestInteragency Visitor Center906-387-3700400 East Munising Avenue, junction of state highway M-28 and county road H-58 in Munising. Loved the views of the lake from Miners Castle, the walk down to the observation deck is easy ... the walk back to the parking lot ... may require a rest stop. Plenty of parking and clean rest rooms at the gift shop area.
Amazing rock color only to be seen via water. Well worth the money. One suggestion, color would be better afternoon when the sun shines on it as it is on the eastern side. Very beautiful area, especially in the fall. Color was peak.
Beautiful views of the pictured rocks and Miner's Castle. Clean restrooms and a small gift shop. Easily accessible lookout with option for a walking trail to get closer to Miner's castle. Optional walk, but not necessary to enjoy great views!
The Miner's Castle Rock Overlook is easily accessible and takes about 10 minutes to see. The view is very picturesque and free. Definitely a great picture opportunity.
Before or after the boat trip this is a beautiful site to see. Take a camera and visit the falls along the way
The rock cliffs at the lakeshore were beautiful. Had to get used to saying "lakeshore" vs "sea shore' (living in Calif). The UP has so much for outdoor activity, not like the central valley of Calif.
My sister and I had a reserved seat on the sunset cruise to see the entire Pictured Rocks Nat'l Seashore. The day we arrived a fierce storm was brewing up 15-20 foot waves and the cruise was cancelled. We were so disappointed! But we saw where we could drive about 10 miles along the coast to view from above Miners Castle Rock. Lucky for us the winds were still blowing because we saw something that not many get to see. The waves crashing on the rock jutting out with a large "BOOM" and 5 seconds later the water spewing with a loud "Whoosh" out of 2 blow holes! You could feel the boom reverberate inland even as you walked back to the parking lot. Awesome! It was mesmerizing. The water color challenges Caribbean seas.
We stopped on Halloween Oct 31. It had snowed and the temperatures dropped to around 30 so we decided to do a little sightseeing while driving around the lake on vacation. The view of Lake Superior was excellent. The waves crashing on the rocks and at Miners Beach the view was just as beautiful! There was a viewing platform and stairs down to a lower level view at Miners Castle. At Miners Beach, it had only a few stairs right to the beach and public outhouses were available, too. Just remember bring you camera. The best views are from the boat cruises but if you happen to visit after the boats have stopped running you can still view some.
it was freezing cold when we arrived but the view was worth fighting the elements! each viewing platform had something different to offer so don't skip out on the different spots. Was just passing through the area but could have easily stayed a day or two! Hope to return to area in the future
This is one of the neatest natural wonders in the UP. I've taken the cruise in June and in October and it was beautiful both times. I love being on the water and the view is just gorgeous. We got many great pictures and the artist of our group brought back at least 4 sketches of the fall colors and the rocks. We would take the trip again - it's well worth it.
