It was my 3th time on Gozo and this time i wanted to do a raku workshop. I have met Hermine already the first time i came to Gozo (3 years ago) and the kindness and warmth of her person made me decide to do a workshop of raku with her in september of this year. And it was just great !! The explanation, the patience , the knowledge of art, her own beautiful selfmade statues, her lovely paintings and jewellery gave myself inspiration to make my own statues. The last evening when the statues had to be baked in her selfmade raku oven was a unforgetable experience!! The light of the oven shining in the darkness and also the light on the statues because of the 1200 degrees oven heat! !Simon her husband made that evening complete with a lovely dinner . Thanks Hermine and hope to see you again in the future.
I had the privilege of participating in two of Hermine Sammut's art walks and creative courses, specifically her ceramics course and painting with natural pigments. Hermine is a very gracious host and a very knowledgeable instructor. I learned a tremendous amount about ceramics and raku and we used local clays and soils to mold and sculpt our shapes in her lovely home studio. I also had a wonderful time walking in Gozo, picking local flowers and gathering soils, which we took to her home and made into beautiful paints. After each course, Hermine prepared a wonderful lunch and we ate outside in her charming garden. I cannot recommend these courses enough. They are interesting, relaxing, creative, and very inexpensive. Hermine is a wonderful teacher and provides the highest quality materials. Most courses consist of only 1 to 3 people so you get a lot of personal attention and instruction. Gozo is also a wonderful setting for a beautiful, countryside vacation right in the middle of the Mediterranean. Anyone interested in local artisan painting and ceramics MUST try this course. You will be so glad you did!
Attended a morning of art with Hermine and her guests and truely enjoyed the experience. We worked with "natural elements" - painting with sand/flowers etc... and it was really magical. Her direction and comments were really helpful and I came away with something that I felt so happy with. A wonderful morning.
Took our 2 kids to this workshop - 2 hours of crafts using exclusively natural pigments, part in-studio and part out in the countryside identifying and collecting pigments. Kids loved it! Will definitely do it again. Brilliant way to spend a morning in Gozo with young children.
I loved this opportunity to do something different and non-traditional while on Gozo. I did a walk with Hermine and we visited 2 studios plus her own. I like the idea of combining exercise with art. I really enjoyed the ability to go inside of the artist studios and talk to them about their craft and Gozo. It's a super way to have a local experience amidst all of the tourism of Gozo. If you holiday in Malta, be sure to go meet Hermine and take a walk with her or do a workshop; it’s your chance to experience the island from a different angle.
An inspiring time getting to know Gozo and connecting my experiences in a fun way . I understand much better what i like about the island .The relaxed way of life, the friendly inhabitants ,who show their resourcefulness,as Hermine demonstrated so well though her art .I was lucky to visit in spring when the flowers were abundant and the fields green . I would recommend time out with Hermine to anyone who wants to do something different
We had such an enjoyable day! It was a fun visit being in the good company of Hermine. She was informative, friendly and made our day for myself and two children just brilliant. Hermine is a great teacher and kept my two children both 10 years of age, well and truly occupied, for the whole 3 hours we were there. The 3 of us would highly recommend this excursion like visit and will be returning in the near future! We came home with some wonderful pieces of 'art work' and we thank you Hermine for your patience, skill and friendliness.
I organized the visit from my hotel (kempinski) and Hermine picked me up and took me to her home in Nadur. She explained her drawings, showed me her work, and then took me on a walk to collect natural pigments and all the while having me touch, feel, and even taste nature all around us. She also showed me some very breathtaking sights. Hermine allowed me to practice with the pigments (felt like a 6 year old and it was fun). After a home-cooked lunch, we began the serious painting. I chose the Azure Window and Hermine helped me along with shades, colors, shading. My picture is actually not as bad as I thought and I now have a great memory of Gozo. I absolutely enjoyed my time Hermine and would highly recommend this to people....do something outside the tourist box!!

This is an amazing opportunity to spend a day in an artist's home learning about her work and about other artists working on Gozo. Hermine is relaxed and welcoming and a wonderful teacher too. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in art. No previous experience is necessary and you can choose to work with clay or paint. Hermine will adapt the day around your interests and you can take your work home.
