We took the full day trek and it was a lovely experience for us. We are not very experienced riders but the whole trip was really enjoyable and within our capabilities. The whole experience was well organised and very professional and clear that our safety was paramount, along with that of the horses. Maria and the girls took us on a lovely ride through the hills, we had a really nice meal in a taverna and then made our way back, all the time feeling safe and that the horses were happy to be making the journey too. All the horses at the club are really well looked after, happy and healthy which is really important as this is not always the case. We would thoroughly recommend taking a trip with the horses as part of your stay in Naxos whether just for a couple of hours or a full day, it will really make your holiday. Many thanks to Linda and the girls!
We are a family of 2 adults, a 9 year and a 5 year old. I'm the most experience rider having been on a horse three times and my children have never been on a horse! I communicated with Linda over emails to set the ride up and we were collected from outside the hospital in Naxos town. Linda drove us to the stables and we got ready and had a brief introduction into how to ride and had our helmets fitted. We set off with two guides, one holding our youngest child's horse on a long rein and it was nice that it was just us in the group. Firstly, we rode through the little farming lanes and then across the road to the beach. Next we rode through the sea to a small island and around it before riding back to the shore and along the beach to a beach bar for a break and a cool drink. We continued along the beach and then back through the lanes to the stables. We had the opportunity to try trotting on the sands which was fun but hard on the posterior for us amateurs! At all times we felt safe even when one of the horses was a bit spooked by a car, the guide quickly took control of the horse and it was no drama. This was the highlight of the holiday, especially for our children and I think riding along the beach was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. Linda the owner and the guides were all Brits and very helpful and accommodating. It cost 200e for three hours but I think it was worth it, when you consider it was for four amateurs with two guides in a group by them selves, it felt very special. We did the daytime ride, but there is an evening ride too, plus lots of other rides if you enquire. After the ride Linda dropped us back near our hotel.
I really wanted to go on a horse riding experience whilst in Greece but was anxious about the treatment of the horses as in most of Greece animals are often mistreated but Linda (the owner) and her staff were nothing but professional and most importantly the horses looked healthy and well looked after. The day starts with being picked up by Linda at the hospital and taken to the stables. You go through the normal formalities, safety etc. and then you get to meet your horse. Mine was called Marita (the grandmother of the bunch), I was a bit anxious as I was a beginner but the staff took the time to explain and go through the basics before we headed off for the trek. You start off going through dirt roads, which can get tricky because it's lined with bamboo and my horse in particular kept stopping to eat, and then through a village before arriving at a small beach. The ride along the beach was my favourite part of the whole experience including riding the horses through the water. You then head further down the beach and end up at St George's beach where you stop for a break and get to grab a drink at a beach bar for about 1/2 hour or so (most people didn't take their purses/wallets so make sure you take some money with you). You then head back the same way you came to end a truly wonderful experience!
My daughter is now riding two years in Linda's horseriding club. From having no experience at all, my daughter became a confident rider, taught by Linda and her staff. Safety is always one of Lindas priority as well as teaching the children new things and become responsable , confident riders. The rides to the beach are always a great way to see the island in a different way and enjoying the horses. I would recommend all horse lovers to visit naxos horse riding and experience one of the tours on the island to discover the beauty of Naxos.
My wife and I visited Naxos in September 2014 and definitely wanted to include a horseback riding experience into our plans. We emailed with Linda several times before our scheduled ride, and arranged where she would pick us up in town the day of the ride. (Recommend looking for the spot ahead of time, we had a bit of trouble finding it.) We chose the sunset beach ride (3 hours long) and really enjoyed it! We were lucky enough to be the only two riders on our journey. We had two experienced guides accompany us. We rode through the grounds and over to the beach, through the water, and back to a little beach restaurant for a break to watch the sun start to go down. It was beautiful! We resumed our ride back to the horse farm. In hindsight, we probably would have preferred a two hour tour simply because we are inexperienced riders and were feeling a bit saddle sore by the end, but that's not a complaint. We enjoyed the staff, Linda was very friendly, the horses were well looked after, and her little kitties were so friendly. Highly recommend this experience!
Do visit and take the ride. We took the two hour one. We would 've preffered less participants but we understand the costs. Mainly for beginners. Keep at it Linda!
My two teenage daughters have been riding at Naxos horse riding club for many years. They were beginners to start with, now they are accomplished riders. Taught by Linda and her staff, they have done many wonderful tours and ridden many of the horses. At all times Linda has safety as her priority, always aiming to match the horse with the rider. She has a real rapport with both girls and makes the tours lots of fun. It is a great way to see more of the island and explore the tracks which are not accessible by vehicle. We look forward to many more tours with the lovely friendly horses.
Yesterday I did the three hour sunset ride. The journey starts through farm land around Naxos, which, as a tourist, you wouldn't usually see, then continued through water to an island! Then we had lots of fun hooning around the beach before watching the sunset at a cafe. All round amazing experience, though I recommend wearing shoes that can get wet! And specifying your experience directly, to ensure you receive the best horse :)
My girlfriend and i are have never rode a horse before, and this was a enjoyable experience. We were there during the low season (most of the tourist sights were just opening for the holiday season), and hence it turned into a private tour for us!They pick us up in front of the hospital and drove us to their stables. Walked thru some mushy roads and to the beach. The owners are very friendly and are from Britain (i think), so communication wasnt a trouble at all. Highly recommend this :)
My husband and I are inexperienced and we went for a 2 hours sunset ride with the club. It's a wonderful experience we wouldn't forget. We went through village dirt roads and the beach, enjoyed beautiful view at the beach and have good fun during the ride. I rode on Hebe and she likes to eat. She just picked grass and shrubs along the way and I could hardly stopped her. She's fun and vivid and I enjoyed her company. Linda and the girls (guides) are very kind and helpful. Highly recommended.
