Wanted to post a review for parents considering a trip to the CVL and CoCo Key Waterpark. When I first walked in, the lobby of the hotel seemed nice enough. I was traveling with my wife and two children ages 5 and 2. The room had a strange setup and was really run down. Dirty carpet, dirty tile in the bathroom etc. The mattress was old, sheets were old, it just feels like the place hasn't been maintained. My wife tried 4 vending machines for a bottle of soda and all of them were out of order or empty. The pool tables were out of order, the "spa" never had anyone there, just really poorly managed. The first night we ordered room service. We waited 90 minutes for sliders, chicken fingers, a salad, and a chicken sandwich. The food was average at best, complete with fountain sodas that were flat. My kids had carrot sticks, and they were just carrots cut into 1 inch long strips with the skins still on. Mind you, this was supposedly from an excellent restaurant ($25+ per plate for entrees). Needless to say, we ate at the Bob Evans around the corner the remainder of the trip. On to the water park, I wanted to give some reference for parents that have been to Kalahari Sandusky. The water park is about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of Kalahari. It has two body slides (nice enough for kids and adults ages 6-???), a tube slide (fun for ages 6+), two whirlpools, a lazy river, an activity pool (basketball, lillypads etc.), a toddler pool with dumping buckets and two side by side slides, and a rather large tree house with dumping bucket, 3 slides (perfect for my 5 year old), levers, nobs etc. The only thing missing was the wave pool. I would say the water park was perfect for children my kids' age. Again though, the place was a bit run down (a recurring theme). It's like they do not care about the maintenance of the place. We rented a cabana, but the TV didn't work. The toilet paper roll in the bathroom was hanging on a screw in the wall, so when you pulled a sheet the roll bounced off and rolled across the floor. They ran out of towels by 2pm (you are a water park, don't run out of water or towels). Than ran out of hot pretzels by 1pm. Just signs of weak or absentee management. The arcade closes at the same time as the water park (why not an hour later?). Things just don't make sense. I am still rating this average. If you go, understand a few things. 1) Expect an average hotel, it is NOT a resort (which makes the room rate harder to swallow). 2) Plan to eat out or order pizza. 3) Bring beach towels. 4) Be prepared for minor inconveniences and annoyances. Like i mentioned above, the waterpark is great for smaller kids say 10 and under. I can imagine older kids getting bored pretty quickly.
I can't believe the conditions here my kids are sick and we have a very long drive ahead of this it began the next day after being here!
We loved everything about this indoor water park. Food was good also. Not as big as some places but was very affordable for our family.
Worst place ever....would have rather stayed home. First they are understaffed even for not being that busy. The customer service everywhere was horrible. The front desk staff people were rude and getting through by phone is impossible. The lodge is not kid friendly being that it is connected to a water park. The water park snack bar lady was rude to me and my 3 year old(she actually threatened not to make him a slushie because he yelled "mommy" to get my attention while I was ordering then asked us to stand outside the window and watch for our food to be ready because she said he appeared to be getting upset). Lodge restaurant was slow even though restaurant not busy....food was not overly impressive for time it took to get to table(however after being there almost 2 hours, we just wanted to leave). Will never go back even if paid me. Take your money to great wolf lodge!
I left a review for this park previously, when we stayed in Feb. 2012 (see my review for Cherry Lodge which is the hotel attached to this water park). I find it odd that the review is gone. Anyway it's a horribly unsafe dump. You seldom see a Tripadvisor "Terrible" rating so consistently as you do here. I don't mean to disrespect the reviewers that enjoyed themselves but any positive comments are far outweighed by the other reviewers dreadful & unsafe experiences. Interesting that one of my major concerns about the overwhelming smell of chlorine (keep in mind I spent most of my life in Florida with pools year round. I am very familiar with pool chlorine smell) was noted by several others. I'm a nurse & I'm telling you the chlorine is dangerously high no matter what they may tell you. We're talking scarily so and enough to cause significant respiratory distress for otherwise healthy people.
Last winter I had a very enjoyable time there. They have a hottub which was nice, and the big playground that has a big bucket that pours down every once and a while. The best part about it is there is a bar!
The waterpark closes at 7:00, go early. If you wait until you get your room @ 4:30, you will only have a few hours of fun
We enjoy this indoor water park in the cold weather!! Room is clean and food is great. Staffs are kind and attentive.
This was the dirtiest pool we have ever been to, it has two hot tubs, the one inside looked like it had a half inch of dirt and scum on the bottom and the one outside looked about the same plus it had dirty food wrappers around it and about 35 cigarette butts laying around, looks like no one ever cleans this place. Ice cold water and well I just have nothing good to say about the place. We would never go back.
At the Coco Key Water Resort, there are many great slides and really fun things for your kids to do, but the life guards are exceptionally rude. Also, the pool has way too much chlorine.
