It's big and spacious. I love the selection of animals they have. The gardens are beautiful in the spring and summer. The prices in the eatery aren't too bad, but the gift shop is a little expensive. I like that I can use my Recycling Perks to get a discount and that they discount for military folks. I just wish they would decorate for Christmas with some lights.
This is the perfect size zoo. It is not too large that my kids get tired before we get through it. The animals are always within a viewable spot for us. We always get there just as they open and head to the back in order to catch the larger animals before the crowds make it there. The elephants usually a little late getting out of their holding area but if you walk and view the lions at a decent pace you should catch them out. The animals are always moving and we have never had any issues with not being able to view something due to hiding. The giraffes are always a favorite of my little ones. The nice thing about this zoo is that it often has new babies which are fun to watch learn. We have eaten at the food area near the zebras multiple times and were never disappointed. It is typical park type food but the prices weren't as bad. This zoo is a nice stop and only really needs a morning, not a full day. There is a nice park in front of the zoo that has picnic tables and a playground area which is awesome for a picnic lunch before heading home!
The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk was a really pleasant surprise. Gorgeous, well-treated animals from around the globe and organized in such a fashion that it was easy to understand for all ages. Clean! Even the restrooms...
Its a smaller zoo and lacks a lot of trees in the public areas. It's nice but small. If you have been to the national zoo you won't be impressed.
I like the variety of animals at this zoo and the way they are spaced. I'm a senior so tire sooner than young folks but this is not too big for a visit with toddlers. Don't forget to bring dry clothes and a towel if it's warm weather and the the child is going to play in the fountains!
Food was $$$ if you are not members. Children ages 4-7 had fun. Train ride was enjoyable. Begin tour at the back area and end at the front of the zoo.
We have been to the Virginia Zoo numerous times, with our Grand Kids, and each time we find something else to love about it.
We went to the zoo with teenagers and very young children. There was no crowd, we could take as long as we wanted with each animal. The enclosures were spacious and there were a lot of different viewing areas so you could see things from different angles. The Red Panda was incredible as it walked over your head on a branch. It was a mild day, around 70 degrees, so every animal walked around and greeted you. Priced right for the size, an excellent half day zoo.
The Virginia Zoo has really grown and added many additional exhibits. Very nice setting with trees and a lot of grass to relax. Great place for families.
Great place to visit, Had Seasons Pass and lived near by. A great afternoon walk amoung the animals!
