Ocean Ridge is one of the premier communities in Brunswick County. It has only upscale single family homes, an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, a workout room, four golf course plus one under construction. There are oodles of activities to participate in for those so interested. It took a hit in the real estate bust a few years ago, but is doing pretty well again. There are lots of homes under construction, but the best deals are on resale homes and lots. I suggest that in order to get the full picture you talk with a real estate agent who works for the community as well as one who works outside the gates.
My friends and I played a few rounds of golf at Ocean Ridge Plantation; the Lion's Paw and Tiger's Eye courses to be specific. These are top notch golf courses. The courses were in great condition, the staff was friendly and helpful, the bar and snack bar were well stocked, and the weather in October was excellent. I especially liked that the beverage/snack cart came around frequently.
My wife and I were looking for a place to relocate from New Jersey seven years ago and traveled most of the east coast in pursuit of a new life new the ocean. Three days after we found/visited Ocean Ridge, we purchased a lot and began construction. The area is one of the best on the east coast and our move to Ocean Ridge was the best decision we could have made. Ocean Ridge is a gated golf community with the friendliest people in the world. It includes all the amenities you could ask for including a house on the ocean front in the town of Sunset Beach to have direct access to the ocean. Unlike many golf communities on the east coast, Ocean Ridge Plantation is well managed by the home owners and has the financial resources to insure the stability of the community.
This is one of the nicest developments you will find in the Myrtle Beach southern North Carolina area. The 4 golf courses are great and the planned communities and housing is as good as any in this area.
Good choice for golf at the beach. Discount with the Coastal Vacation Resorts key is nice and well worth it.
We found the closest thing to paradise when we built our home here 3 year's ago. We are 3 miles from sunset beach where our community has a beautiful beach club. Our plantation club has both indoor and outdoor pools plus workout room. We own a boat which we keep 10 miles away on the intracoastal waterway. If we need a big city both Myrtle Beach SC and Wilmington NC are both an easy drive. We don't play golf but have 4 courses in case visitors want to play. We like to travel but the best part of every trip is returning home to Ocean Ridge!
Played three of the courses this week - Lions, Panthers, and Tigers. Lions Paw greens were BAD - don't play here. Panthers Run were fair, not worth playing either. Tigers Eye was OK and the course was in OK shape.Pro shop staff were the rudest (except Maddy) we've met in the area in quite a while. Our group (8 to 12) will likely not return here in the future. Play Rivers Edge in Shallotte for a great golf course. Also, Lockwood Folly near Holden Beach - very friendly and a challenging track.
Lions paw and panthers run are two courses not worth playing. It was ridiculous to stay on cart path when courses were dry and seeding done. The questions asked by starter were long and evolved and were more appropriate for border crossing then golf course. The pin placements were ridiculous-all on slopes that did not allow the ball to stop -they would just roll back at you! I am not even sure they were legal! The staff cared more about the football and basketball scores then being polite.Tigers eye was great! Course in good condition. Pin placements fair but hard. Starters were friendly and helpful. Only problem we had was in pro shop after round when asking about merchandise. Pro shop help was not helpful and unfriendly. Left my money in my wallet.
Ocean Ridge Plantation has three beautiful, challenging courses (The Big Cats) and they are building a fourth course now. Loved the golf. There are two clubhouses and the food and service in both are excellent. The blackened chicken sandwich was top rate. The fish there is FRESH. Well stocked clubhouses, with apparel and clubs. The courses are very scenic and relaxing. Easy access on Highway 17 to Myrtle Beach or Wilmington. Great location. People were very friendly and accommodating. Everything was very clean.
Played Tigers Eye today. Paid $46 for the round. Well worth the price in my opinion. Great layout with variety that forces course management. Fairways were a little dry and brown, but it did not affect the play. In fact, I prefer somewhat dry fairways in July. The ball rolls a lot further and golf courses need to conserve water where they can. Kudos to Tigers Eye as it did not affect play. The greens around areas surrounding the greens were in suprerb shape and the greens rolled true. Everyone was pleasant from the time we rolled up. The pace slowed a bit on the back nine, but it wasn't bothersome and allowed for good conversation with our single who Tigers Eys staff paired up with us. Played Leopards Chase about two months ago. Again, the same experience with staff. Coure was in great shape. So far I'm 2 for 2 on my enjoyment playing "The Cats" courses. Granted, I've played their top two courses, but I look forward to playing the other two and look forward to the day they open up Jaguar's Lair.
