Close to town, trails of varying distances, easy beach access, playgrounds, flower gardens and pet friendly. The only downside is theft has been reported here a bit. Don't leave valuables in your car.
A quick trip from downtown, Priest Point Park is great to get to the shore and see some beautiful, old trees.
I remember this park very well from my childhood. It is a great secret near the water. The trails are up and down with steep paths, narrow and can be muddy depending on the time of year. It is worth the trip though to get to the shore and admire the Olympics in the distance.
Great place to walk and explore. Pet and kid friendly. Watch your step on the trails as they can be quite slippery when wet.
One of the best parks in Olympia, have picnic areas, hiking trails and lots of beach to explore. My favorite time is the low tide or sunset to get some great pictures, but be prepared to get muddy if you go out on the beach! Bring some extra shoes or your car will be a mess on the way back!
Perfect location for a picnic or an afternoon stroll. Make your way through the wooded trails down to the sound and skip some rocks
It is stated on the Olympia public park website that Priest Point has some steep trails. Go hiking and you will see that is very true. A well maintained park, right along the Sound, Priest Point has many trails that go through still standing old growth forests. For those with some disabilities or age issues, some of the trails will be just too much to deal with - lots of steps up and down. Having said that, one can still wander just a bit into the forests and be amazed at how quickly you feel nature taking over. There is also a beach but once again it is through the downside of a slope.
Perfect day in Olympia if you love the outdoors. It was a little difficult to find the correct trail heads because lack of signs, but beautiful hike once we found it. I could have stayed all day.
This park has a lot to offer and is my go to for a close to town nature get away. It is close enough to town so that even a short visit is pleasant and easy. There is also enough to do to fill an entire day. The nature trails access the Puget Sound shoreline and extend to the northern forest and cliff side. A lesser known entrance is located to the north of the main entrance that allows quick and easy access to this forest, but be wary or leaving any valuables in the car while parked in this lot. The main entrance offers many more modern amenities. Including BBQ's, a playground, picnic shelters w/ water, flush toilets, and a garden suitable for weddings and special events.
Lots of places and nooks and cranies to go and get away from the crowds...its busy a lot of the time in the warmer monthes...beautiful beach access and lots of trees and pavilions around to have a get together or a quite time alone...very nice!
