It is rightly the number one sight seeing spot in Ooty. I could not have believed such a place existed in India.Make sure you catch the first forest department bus which leaves at around 9:30 am to enjoy the beauty of the lake. After that, it would be very crowded. The lake looked beautiful and the water was so pure as if it was a reflection of the sky.It is a must visit point to experience the calmness of the place.
This is one of the most remote and unspoilt destinations in the Nilgiris. It is 60 km from Ooty and one can access it from another route if heading from Coimbatore. This is a very big water body and is on the head waters of the Bhavani River. The river originates nearby and there is a small temple dedicated to the Goddess of the River. The river then flows to Kerala and then re enters Tamilnadu and later forms vast dams like Pillur and Bhavani sagar before merging with Kaveri at a town that itself is called Bhavani near Erode. The reason for the place being so pristine is simple – it is out of bound for mass tourism; we require permission from Forest Department or you have to be part of the conducted day tour of the Department. One has to keep places like this intact as it is a fragile bio diversity hot spot and part of Nilgiri Biosphere.
Night show, flowers, are good in season for mumbaikar those staying in western suburbs its like evershine garden
I couldn't visit Upper Bhawani Lake during my recent visit. I was confused by various reviews posted about the lake. I tried to do my bit of fact finding and below is what I found out:1. Local tour operators normally don't take you to Upper Bhawani Lake.2. They take you to Avalanche (name of a place).3. There they show you Lakkdi Lake, Emerald Dam & Avalanche Dam & there backwater lakes.4. However you miss the Upper Bhawani Lake.5. For upper Bhawani lake you need special permission from Forest Ranger.6. His office is in Ooty.7. You need to give details of the vehicle which will take you to Upper Bhawani Lake.8. After obtaining this permit only you can go to upper Bhawani.9. It's about 65kms from Ooty on Manchoor Road.10. Tell your cab driver clearly about the Upper Bhawani lake you want to visit else you will land up at Avalanche.11. Though Avalanche is a very good place but wanting to see Upper Bhawani lake when you land up somewhere else you are heart broken. So take care friends. For Avalanche see my review on the specific page....Happy travelling.....
As mentioned in many comments it's best if you take the first bus. Bus charge is Rs. 300/- and they also have a provision of jeep which will cost you Rs. 1200/-. So make sure that you get there early enough to get the bus which leaves as soon as 15 people get in. It takes around an hour and a half to get there and also there are three more attractions on the way where you can take really good pics. Upper Bhavani Backwaters is the last stop and they have truly saved the best for the last. The bus takes a 15 min stop there and that is enough time to take beautiful snapshots of the lake as well the pine forest. I can guarantee that the memories of the beautiful lake will stay with you for a long time as such views are rarely seen in India.
The route to upper bhavani reservoir is a feast. One must take permission from forest department in OOTY before proceeding for the trip. It is a must visit place and the only place i liked in ooty. All others are pretty crowded and regular places.
After acquiring special permission we went driving through and it was such a beautiful drive with stunning views. The terrain and vegetation of the hills here is unlike anywhere else in the Nilgiris. So its beautiful and baffling at the same time. A must visit as there aren't many tourists to bother you. The lake is beautiful and from atop looks like a painting...because it's so perfect and beautiful.
The lake offers the nature's gift to Mankind. The visit was a memorable one. The surroundings look beautiful. Overall an en-lighted trip to the lake.
Fantastic place to enjoy with family and friends.Must to visit this place where you can have lot of fun in traveling and also in enjoying the wonderful chill climate.
If you are in Ooty.., please visit this place. You nee to hire a jeep or get govt bus tickets to get in there. The lake is awesome.
