When we went, the park was closed (normally closes at 10:00 p.m.) because it was Smokey the Bear's birthday! Who knew???In any event, very beautiful trails and views. As for the stairs leading down to sand dunes, it is under construction. But will definitely return.
Great spot to visit during our fall color trip! It is a very interesting and cool place to visit. I hadn't been there in years and it's a well kept site. I would recommend anyone to stop in there, with children too!
a must stop on any visit to the Oscoda area. The history and actual "hands-on" displays are exceptional for children and adults.
The view is amazing. I had no idea the AuSable River was so large. The Lumberman's Monument is on the top of the hill and when you look down you see the most incredible sight!
The history of what adversity of the lumberman of times gone by. Having made my living as a lumberman, I want to go back into time for the truly interesting tales. The times that the lumberman did all of the work by hand while now most of the work in done by machines. I could go back & enjoy the park over & over again! No matter what the weather was like you wanted to see everything the park had to offer.
The best part for our family of 4 boys was the run down the long sand hill and the swim across the lake to walk up the steps. Not recommended if you are not in good shape. The park itself is clean and fun.
Just a gorgeous view and beautiful site with some displays and a gift shop. Disappointed the steps to the valley below were still under replacement, but it has to happen sometime. Would return again if in the area.
Went here on our way to Lake Huron. My brother recommended this. Absolutely breath taking view. And free admission
Loved it all. Great history here, spend an hour or an entire afternoon. We visited for about 2 hours, fall time, great fall colors, nice walk down to the river (approximately 300 steps). It's a nice place to visit and learn about the lumber industry in Northern Michigan.
Was worth the stop while taking a back roads motorcycle trip. Our campground guide informed us about the scenic byway.
