A well laid out museum, with great exhibits and very helpful staff. Worth a visit and suitable for all ages.
I went to the Museum with my daughter and her friend. We had a great day! Even walking by without reading every thing, it took us a good 5 hours. The girls listening to the telephones, played with the interactive exhibits and quite enjoyed the artefacts. We had a great time.
Not being all that interested in military topics, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this museum. There was so much to see that we spent almost 6 hours there and could have stayed even longer.
A truly great museum that traces the history of military involvement in and by Canada from pre-history, through the French and British colonial periods through to the wars of the twentieth century and the peace-keeping Canada was expert in to the present day and the conflicts of the 21st century. The hallowed hall is also not to be missed, designed such that a shaft of sunlight illuminates a stark monument to the unknown soldier only on Remembrance Day, 11 November each year. Note; There is an entrance fee to this museum but it is free for Veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces and one guest.
I have been to this museum on many occasions. I try to take out-of-town visitors there when I get the chance. It is an amazing museum with exhibits from the Revolutionary War right to present-day exhibits. I don't find the museum glorifies war rather teaches people Canada's role in the world whether it be from the war of 1812 to Canada's many peacekeeping operations over the decades. My favourite part of the museum is the large room with the military equipment with the large windows overlooking Parliament Hill and downtown Ottawa. A must-see museum for tourists and residents alike.
Found it very hard to find my way around while still keeping on the same theme i.e. starting on ww1 then finding I had made a wrong turn and was now in ww2. Although very thought provoking, I found it a bit over-whelming and will have to go back another time to finish the tour.
a really impressive museum that is absolutely worthy of spending there a whole day. It puts things in perspective when you look back and see in the same place all the conflicts that have come before and the ones that still last today... and altough it focuses more on Canadian history, it hits the mark with everyone that goes there, regardless of their country of origin.
This museum needs to expand and add more about canadian military AFTER the Cold War. Nothing really at all on Afghanistan, Somalia or any recent conflicts. Little interactive exhibits and kids bored because nothing to climb or sit in. As an adult it's interesting but if you want to educate a younger child it has nothing to keep them interested. Take the time to visit the used book store. Interesting books available and great conversation with the volunteer(s) there. And WHY do they sell fake military/air soft gear in the gift shop!?!? It's not a surplus store. I'll wait a few years before giving it a chance again...maybe.
来渥太华(Ottawa)一定要来这里。这里详尽地介绍了从法国殖民时期到近代的军队史。展示了所有资料,以及坦克和其他军用设备以及武器等,特别棒。在这里至少要呆上3个小时或者一天的时间。
We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. A lot of history and moving stories and images of how our soldiers fought to preserve our Freedoms.
