We used the company that was right outside The Dreamer / opposite the Tiki Hut who didn't speak much English (we were in Colombia after all!), but were friendly and enthusiastic. It was $25,000 pesos a person (£8 / $12) I think. We drove up the hill in a battered old jeep which was fun as we got to see a side of the village we wouldn't have seen otherwise and kept on going up the hill for about 15-20 minutes. When you reach the end of the path you have to trek up the hill a further 20 minutes. This was quite tough in flip flops (and carrying our tube), but you don't want anything heavier as you obviously have to carry it with you in the tube back on the river! You get a guide to come with you, the langauge barrier didn't stop him being friendly. The tubing itself is really fun and relaxing; the river is generally only about a metre deep at its deepest and is very rarely a strong current (in fact I would have preferred a bit stronger!!). If any of our group got dragged over to one side of the river (only as they were incapable of paddling with their hands in the right direction which most of us managed easily) the guide came over the helped them out. It took about 90 minutes to trundle down the river and then you walk back along the beach for 20 minutes to get back to the start. It's a really good way to spend a few hours and you'd be missing out if you come to Palomino and don't give it a try.
When in Palomino, ask your hotel/hostel to contact Calisto. He is the local guide/expert on river tubing in the Rio Palomino. He is very caring and devoted to introducing people to nature in the local area. We rode with him on mototaxis with our inner tubes to the base of a a mountain and did a short hike to get in the water. Totally worth it! It was just my friend, myself and our guide, Calisto in the middle of incredibly beautiful surroundings. An absolute must while in Palomino!
Go explore the surroundings in a very relaxed way, but wait for the rainseason for more adventure. There are different agencies in Palomino, offering the same experience. Just pick one, they are all the same.
Nice quick hike up the foothills of Sierra Nevada and then relaxing floating down the river - great way to spend a few hours. The river is clean and refreshing, so you can take a little break from tubing and go for a swim. Bring a sun block.
It's a great, chilled way to enjoy the beauty of Sierra Nevada and the Palomino River. Don't miss it!
The guides were great and made the trip even more enjoyable - brining the tubes up the hill and guiding us down the river making sure we all floated in the right place on the river.
Little walk in the jungle to the beginning of the river. The guide was really helpfull and kind. It was so relaxing tubing on the river. We saw a little kaayman, crocodile,The river is calm and not deep. It took 2hours on the river. Recommended.
A couple suggestions for tubing down the river, bring sunscreen, a water bottle and a hat. I recommend you wear sandals or water shoes, there is a short, fairly steep, hike to the river. The river is pretty calm, very relaxing and uncrowded. It would've even been nice to have a chilled adult beverage for the ride down the river. We could've spent all day on the river, it was so beautiful!
Esta experiencia no se la pueden perder, este es uno de esos ríos espectaculares y refrescantes, como en esta época se encuentran muy pocos, bajando se puede apreciar La Sierra Nevada en algunas mañanas y el paisaje es hermoso, paz totalThis is a one in a life time experience, that you can not miss, this river is one of those that you don't see to often anymore, refreshing and crystal clear, going down stream you can appreciate nature in all its splendor and in some mornings you can actually see The Sierra Nevada, beautiful and peaceful. You do have to walk half an hour up the mountain and then down to get to the river, but it does pay off, way off!!!
While visiting Palomino,we organized tubing in a local river. In Palomino is easy to get tubes anywhere and by a local taxi or mototaxi get on the top of the hill.. From there just get in to the river and relaaaax.. The nature is beautiful,so it's worth it to take a waterproof camera or gopro..
