We enjoy the drive and the trees changing colours. Its a nice Sunday drive. There is a little ferry you can take and then a nice drive around the county.
The history of the lake is interesting too bad you can't hike the parameter of the lake - you just get a few almost at the roadside. The geology is interesting.
Really relaxing place to have a picnic and look down on the boats coming in from Kingston. It was in July, lots of folks out enjoying themselves.
No trip to the county is complete without stopping by Lake on the mountain. Whether dining at Lake on the Mountain, or the Miller House across the road, it has become one of our favourite haunts...Good food, great view, wonderful ambience.
We were very interested in seeing this natural phenomenon but upon arriving we were underwhelmed. Expected much more! If you didn't know there was no source it would be a simple lake. Nice place for a picnic and a good view over the Glenora ferry port.
As a lake per se, it's not very interesting. The fact it sits on a mountain top [well, escarpment anyway], is so deep, and its origins defy explanation add up to a neat story...
September is an ideal time to vist Lake on the Mountain, near Pcton, ON. As you walk the boardwalk along the pristine lake, you are acquainted with a local legend. Your curiosity might be further heightened by the scene across the road. There you will find ferries on the Bay of Quinte (far below) carrying vehicles. Look back to the Lake. How can this be? Further discussion may take place at the Inn at the Lake on the Mount Resort while you enjoy the excellent fare.
Best patio in Prince Edward County - outside of their sister restaurant across the street! Great food & consistent service. It's a place I recommend to visitors - location - location - location.
We have biked up to the lake in previous years, and drove up to the lake this year to show my 88 yr old aunt this incredible site. She was as amazed as we were the first time we discovered this spot. It is like nothing else I have seen......a lake on the top of the mountain on one side of the country road, with a view down to Lake Ontario on the other side of the road. We visit every time we go to Picton. Do not miss this on your next trip.
This is a definite stop for those who enjoy a beautiful view. It is certainly on of the highlights of the county and makes for a very scenic drive.
