Crowded but a welcome break from the bush. It is very expensive and you have to suffer the overloaded buses taking you from the car park to the Entertainment Centre. Valley itself is excellent and the teenagers enjoyed the day.
The Valley of the Waves really is as fun as everybody says, for all ages. Plenty of different options for those who are adventurous, to those who are less so. It's the kind of place where you just let your hair down and become a kid again. We spent a month in South Africa seeing the best attractions it has to offer, mostly split between the Kruger and Cape Town, and our 3 kids STILL say that their favourite part of the holiday was the one day spent at Sun City.Would we go back? Absolutely!
Sun City, Pilanesberg, South Africa with its majestic The Lost Palace is really breath-taking especially as it was all man made. So much to do from day visitors to over night stays. Best to experience this place is to at least stay there for minimum 3 nights. When the day visitors leave calmness takes over. The lush man made forests and waterways is absolutely stunning. So much to do so little time - from the water world to the casino and shows!
Once again we were absolutely impressed with this wonderful gem in South Africa. We stayed in our newly revamped 3 bedroom unit at the Vacation club timeshare. What a delight. If you can, stay there or any hotel, for at least a weekend but longer will be even better. So much to see and to do. The whole resort is in perfect condition. The gardens! Huge and beautiful. Wonderful hotels. One hint(I have many) if High Tea is your thing, make an appointment at the Palace. The best ever!
Have been fortunate to visit a few times and have also been fortunate enough to stay at all of the 4 main hotels, each one pretty different, especially The Palace. Liked different aspects about each and had no real problems at any of them.I could write a lot about the various restaurants and hotels etc, but have reviewed separately. I would say overall its a good experience. Each hotel has lovely swimming pools, restaurant and things to do. Cabanas has a good childrens section as does the entertainment centre. There are amongst other thiings 2 good golf courses, gambling, bars and restaurants for the adults. Most of the day is spent at the pools or the Valley of the Lost City, a big water world type place which is lovely and an experience in itself and the walk there very interesting ! There is good transport up and down pretty frequently between the hotels and main areas. Things to do for adults and children alike. It is amazing when driving there through local areas when arriving at Sun City that this grandure is where it is and hidden in the hills/mountain.Absolutely worth a visit.
Quite honestly...theres nothing to dislike about this resort. It has anything and everything kids could dream of....like the valley of the waves at lost city.....AWESOME!
Sun City is a totally man-made city built of a volcano crater. This wonderful creation of man provides variety of activities & entertainment within the premises & also amidst nature in Pilanesberg Park. The best way to decide on the activities is to pick up a booklet "What to do in Sun City" from the hotel concierge & plan the day. We are spoilt for choice where gastronomy is concerned.
First off, go during off season as you will enjoy it more without the crowds of people. This is a wonderful place to get away in close proximity to JoBurg or Pretoria. On your way stop in Hartbeespoort and take in the Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary (you won't be disappointed). The resort (The Cabanas) are due for an update it upgrade. While we were there, they were doing just that. I feel it was overpriced for the room we had which was badly outdated plus the door was badly abused and looks like someone tried to break-in. The front clerk just shrugged their shoulders when I mentioned it.Awesome breakfast buffet! Check out other cheaper meals at the Entertainment Center. If you are wanting a nice meal out, check out the Grill at the Palace, but book before you go through your Concierge. Activities that are great and well worth time are: cultural village, the maze, the water-park (wave pool) and of course a must is the Safari adventure. We did the 5 pm and it was 3 hours seeing 4 out of 5 (Big Five). Elvis is a great tour guide and will take you to the right spots. Sit at the very back. I felt a lot of the activities should be part of the resort fee as the gouge you for everything extra.Overall, relax and plan a few days there!
The fantasy beach and water fun features are a delight. But from arrival to departure the service was baffling, often unfriendly and inflexible. We were a group of 5 and had driven 4 hours from Jozi and Soweto. So in a day involving 8 hours driving you do hope for something that is easy to navigate. But rules imposed without prior or obvious warning cast a shadow over the day. For example if you are not permitted to bring a picnic to the beach, let people know to avoid disappointment and having to return it to the car. If you're going to close swimming at 5.30 on a spectacularly warm evening, at least give people well-publicised warning. We witnessed a young family who had just arrived in the early evening being told they couldn't swim. They were profoundly upset.
I enjoyed the Valley of the Waves and tea at The Cascades. I enjoyed eating at Santorini Restaurant and the setting.I did not like the fact that we were not able to go and see the lost city and the high tea there was full. I did not like the fact that we could not find the clinic in a medical emergency. The clinic sign was hidden behind a tree.
