Doing a great job in protecting Turtles all along the Brazilian coast. They gather up the eggs to make sure that as many turtles hatch out as possible and it is interesting to see the different species that they have in the pools.
Find out the time table. When they hatch the turtles eggs, when they take the recent born turtle and leave them on the beach to get into the ocean, when will they feed the big ones. Its a no miss show.
This sunny, fun and friendly place is full of species of turtles, rays and other fish. The project to save the turtles is beautiful and you (or kids) can participate later on by releasing baby turtles on the beach by the end of the day. (I'm not sure this happens every single day)You'll learn about the many species, you can hold sea urchins on your hands and play with the rays flapping the board of the pool. Not to mention how beautiful the Praia do Forte itself is, beautiful beach, buildings and art.Worth a visit.
the litle turtles going , lives, to the ocean , to the future; Tamar's people are very hard workers and nice fellows; the big survivals turtles, good sons, good fathers...
The impact of Projeto Tamar is more in appreciating their (considerable) conservation efforts than in the size or presentation of their operation. Some of the turtles and other sea animals on display certainly are impressive, especially the rare deep water variants in their yellow submarine extra but it's not the biggest or the best you will go to.Kids will appreciate it most.
Great place for kids to get in touch with sea animals. The infrastructure improved a lot since our last time there.
If you think of Praia do Forte, you have to think about the turtles! And Projeto Tamar is a perfect tour for kids, they get crazy inside, they can see the a lot of information, I don't know if they has in English, but you should go anyway. If you go between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning it's free.
I was really looking forward to visiting this place as I am all for the conservation of any animal species and this place obviously is doing some good in releasing baby turtles for the good of their conservation, however, it is out weighed by the fact that they have several species of sea life here that can not be happy in their environment, including an approximatley 6 foot shark in nothing more than a fish tank, many adult turtles that did not appear to be injured but we were told they would not be released and sting rays. There seemed to be little point in these animals being here other than to generate extra money from gulable tourists like us ! Despite there being a small wall separating yourselves from the adult tutles and sting rays and notices asking you not to approach, we witnessed one boy with his father almost picking the rays up out of the tank in something like what seemed to be a dare and another man picking up fully grown adult turtles out of their pools and having his photo taken with them. Not a single member of staff tried to stop this behaviour ! Like I say, whilst I'm sure some good is coming out of Tamar Turltes, it is also a controversial place considering they claim to be all about conservation !
You can experience a great journey through this project which goal is to dave the turttles who are threatned of extinsion.
Good place to visit specially with kids so they can see turtles. It's a little expensive but I guess it's worth as it's a nice project that supports wildlife and also the local community. It's definitely worth a visit (an hour or an hour and a half is more than enough).
