One of each of our kids' first "hikes"! You can get to the dam quickly or take a longer, roundabout way. We have a dog and it the dam is the standard dog swim area! We all wind up jumping in and swimming with the dog. Lake Placid is such a beautiful, clean lake. Just be careful, there are big boulders that will bruise and cut you up while swimming. Have run this trail in the winter as well as other seasons. Great trail running area.
We wanted a quick hike close to town and we found the trail head right behind the Howard Johnson restaurant. We did not know it was there until I saw it on Trip Advisor! It was an easy hike, and we made it to the dam on the end of Lake Placid. It was beautiful!
Brewster peninsula extends into the actual waters of Lake Placid from the southern shore. There are several hiking trails on the peninsula but we chose to walk the Lakeshore Trail section which follows the western edge of the peninsula. It was a very pleasant and easy walk. It's seems ironic that after years of visiting the Lake Placid area, about the only way I usually ever saw the lake itself was from the summit of Whiteface. The town is primarily on Mirror Lake rather than the namesake lake. So it was surprising and refreshing to take this little hike which leads you directly to the shore of Lake Placid. The trail is nicely wooded and felt far more natural than I would have expected when being so close to the town. The views of the lake from the dam and the footbridge below it were quite beautiful. You can also easily see the summit of Whiteface from the shore there. It was a great way to get in a little walk in a natural setting without a drive out of town. The access road lies between the Howard Johnson and the Comfort Inn so was easy to find even though I had never known about it until this visit. As an experienced Adirondack hiker, I did notice that the trail signage was a little sparse. There were trail markers on the trees here and there but the actual trailhead signs were lacking and there were several places where I wondered if we were still on the trail. It's a small enough place that I wasn't worried really but there is room for improvement. Still it was a pleasant experience that I would recommend to others.
I love to cross country ski on this trail in the winter because the views are excellent and they have interesting signs along the trails. I always see people walking their dogs here and imagine it's just as nice in the spring, summer and fall.
Nice hike along the lake. Not too long or strenuous, especially after the day before on the mountain. If you want an easy hike with pretty view of lake, this is the one.
This is a very beautiful hike in the woods that opens to a beautiful lake view. Easy enough trail for all types of hikers. We managed to walk the whole thing with our 20 month old boy.
We wanted something a little more challenging in the end, but this trek was great, peaceful with not too many hikers. The views were great, some nice levation for lookouts and the trial was easy to follow, a liitle too easy for us, but we really enjoyed the scenery. We'll do it again but with our kids this time.
Relaxing walk around Lake Placid with little or no climbing. Great way to see the flora and fauna of the area.
Go on an adventure through the trail ways and enjoy beautiful views! Great for walking, running and biking - families, couples or with your pet! Tucked away behind the main part of town, providing serenity and calmness. Bring your camera for some great photography opportunities! A year round favorite by all!
A very special trail and very secluded & quite. The views from the trails are just astonishing! Lots of great photo opportunities.
