I went to Praslin some time ago. I wanted to see the pearls, and although the place was closed, they opened it for me and my partner. No charge, I purchased a very rare string of pearls for myself, about $10,000, and the whole experience was wonderful. My girlfriend, quite surprised that I had fallen in love with these seedless pearls did not want anything..............but I will be taking her back!
This is located opposite Praslin airport. Basically its a small property where they are harvesting pearls. To be honest, my wife and I did not take the full tour but we could tell that it was probably not worth the while. Entry was only 50 S Rupees.
Two tanks of Giant clams and a short explanation on pearl production plus a jewelry showroom.OK if you are passing but don't make a special journey.
We visited the shop in January and purchased some earrings under the impression that they were priced in seychelles rupees. We paid using credit card and failed to spot the price was in fact in euros. We understand that the shop now clearly displays its prices in euros. But this has been a very costly error and one the shop has been completely unsympathetic to in terms of offering a refund. Apart from that, there is very little to see from the tour .. a few colourful clams and a rather 1970s ish video of pearl farming. Avoid and go to the Seychelles tourist board shop where you get honest treatment.
Very nice to see how we get pearls and the raceways make for absorbing viewing. The jewellery is really first class and ultra modern, top workmanship.
This was shown to us by our landlord and it was a very worth while trip.Very Educational to learn all about the black pearls and to see the many clams in the tanks and also the baby turtles. All in all a very well spent 50 rupees
I have quite a bit of black pearl jewelry from French Polynesia and was excited to see the "gold pearls" of the Seychelles that I saw advertised on Praslin. The shop was small with not much of a selection, especially not many gold pearls. Most were cultured black pearls that they culture right there by the shop. The pearl jewelry was more expensive than most I have seen in US high end jewelry shops but not nearly as nice and the loose pearls were also very overpriced.
